When the present courthouse replaced this one, 3 Catholic Sisters of Charity from Leavenworth, Kansas came and opened St. Mary's Hospital for miners. The hospital briefly prospered till the placer gold was exhausted in. In nineteen forty Mr. Bovey remodeled the interior as a hotel but little has changed on the exterior from the eighteen seventies. There were few amenities but we knew that already. A queen bed would have been better than a double. It was great to have a nice shower and bath tub with plenty of hot water and towels. Made a lot of noise setting up a cot. Others slept in chairs. Very annoying. Talking on their cell phones.
