Chambre d’hôtes le Prieuré de Fouchères

8/10 Good

"A Charming French Farmhouse with Potential Set in a beautiful, peaceful, village, this working farm has all the makings of a French dream. The accommodation seemed more of a homestay than a hotel. Our bedroom was clean, and the host was very friendly and welcoming. The communal breakfast was a highlight, with tea and coffee, a choice of cereals, homemade mini pancakes, fresh bread and delicious homemade jams. Despite this, we felt that our accommodation felt dated rather than quaint. The bathroom would benefit from refreshing/updating and the mismatched old style bedding on the two double beds felt tired and overlooked. More attention to detail would make a real difference and make this nice property really wonderful. One thing to note, they do not take card payments. The property has wonderful character and enormous potential. With some sympathetic updating while retaining its rustic charm, it could be a truly special place to stay. Overall, an enjoyable homestay with a warm welcome, a lovely setting and plenty of room for improvement."

10/10 Excellent

"It was relaxing to have a very big bed after a long day of travelling. The shower was easy to access & easy to use after we had worked out what to do with the shower gel, you squeeze it. Couldn't comment on meals, we didn't partake of any."

Hotel de Charme By Arts & Millésimes

8/10 Good

"The hotel stands on the hillside in a beautiful spot. It looks over the village and countryside. The room is a good side with views over the pool and was adequate for a one night stop. There was a lot of work going on around the pool, banging, sawing and music playing. The pool itself could do with a little work around the edges to improve the finishes as there were cracks and holes. Not many staff around but tt was pleasant. Breakfast was adequate and self service. Short walk to the village were there wwere a few places to eat. The house of Renoir was a lovely place to visist."

Château in Champagne, luxurious, very affordable, private for 1 Family /group

10/10 Excellent

"Great place with 7 rooms, some are of course nicer set up than others. The pool is lovely and heated. Some downsides like very limited towels and the hosts could be a little more relaxed about their attitude towards vacationers using the house and the tours. They no longer do chef at the house, but the dinner we got delivered was very nice and lots of food. Very close to lots of cute little champagne houses. They could also probably rehabilitate some of the rooms like the dining room to their former glory because right now it's not very pretty."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Villedieu?

The best area to stay in Villedieu is within the historic village centre, especially around the Place de l'Église and Rue de la République.

This central area is the heart of Villedieu, known for its traditional Burgundian architecture and a relaxed pace of life. You'll find a selection of local shops, bakeries, and small restaurants clustered around the main square. It's a very walkable area, great for strolling through the cobblestone streets and soaking up the local atmosphere.

Couples looking for a romantic and tranquil escape will find the village centre particularly appealing. The historic setting, with its charming stone buildings and quiet lanes, provides an ideal backdrop for a relaxed holiday.

When is the best time to go to Villedieu?

The best times to visit Villedieu are generally from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to September, when the weather is most agreeable for exploring the Bourgogne region.

During May and June, the countryside is lush and green, and the temperatures are pleasantly mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for outdoor activities like cycling along the canal paths or visiting local vineyards before the peak summer crowds arrive. The longer daylight hours also allow for more extensive sightseeing.

July and August offer the warmest weather, with average temperatures often between 20°C and 30°C. This is peak season, so Villedieu and the surrounding towns will be at their liveliest, with many local festivals and markets taking place. It's a great time for those who enjoy warm evenings for outdoor dining and a bustling atmosphere. However, it's also when you'll find the most visitors, so booking accommodation and popular restaurant reservations well in advance is advisable.

September is another excellent option, as the summer heat begins to subside, and the grape harvest season (vendanges) commences, offering a unique opportunity to witness the winemaking process. Temperatures remain comfortable, usually between 15°C and 25°C, and the autumn colours begin to emerge in the vineyards, making for picturesque scenery.
