Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to go to Vars?
The best time to visit Vars depends entirely on your preferred activities, with the peak seasons being winter for skiing and summer for mountain adventures.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the prime time to visit is from mid-December to late April. During these months, the Vars/Risoul ski area, known as La Forêt Blanche, offers reliable snow conditions across its 185 km of pistes. The resort is particularly popular in February during the French school holidays, so booking well in advance is advisable if you plan to travel then.

Summer in Vars, from July to late August, is ideal for those who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. The weather is generally warm and sunny, superb for exploring the Mercantour National Park or taking advantage of the chairlifts for scenic views and downhill biking. This period is also popular with families looking for a refreshing mountain escape.

Should you prefer a quieter trip with fewer crowds, consider visiting in early December or late April for skiing, or in June and September for hiking.
