The Sylvia is in a great waterfront location in a colourful corner of downtown Vancouver. The building itself has a long interesting history. Its lounge and restaurant are comfortable. My advice is to visit the Sylvia but stay in a different hotel. The room was clean but gruby in other ways and worn and uncomfortable, and poor value for the cost.

We love the Sylvia! Accept that it’s an older hotel (100 years ) Location can’t be beat!!! Stanley Park, English Beach, dinning in the neighbourhood, the locals and everything that is walkable! Love it and have for many years always returning to Sylvia

Nice hotel, great area of town. Unfortunately, with many Expedia bookings I find the room to be close to the elevator (across the hall) and in less desirable area of the hotel. 214 is right above the main entrance to the hotel, where many patrons go to smoke and talk, easily heard through the window (closed) Restaurant was great for breakfast, dinner was okay - tried the steak twice, never cooked to order. Overall a nice stay in a historic hotel.

The Team was Awesome Especially the Front Desk Staff And Pauline in the dining room and the lovely ladies who clean the rooms!!!We will be back but perhaps a room away from the seagulls haha, thank goodness for ear plugs!

Very big rooms There was maintenance on one of the elevators so only one of the two elevators was working One of the guests had two dogs and did not want anyone in the elevator when her dogs were there This made the wait time to be quite long I suggest in future that people should have priority over the pets Staff were very good

We had a very comfortable overnight stay and enjoyed going out to the park across the street to check out the laughing men art installation. Overall we were impressed with the walkability of Vancouver as a whole, and would like to come back and stay a few days using the Sylvia as base. (Check out the story of Mr. Got to Go, the hotel’s mascot cat.)

The hotel oozes old charm, and the position right on the beach, the panoramic beach view from the restaurant and the sea air are all gorgeous. The restaurant is reasonably priced. I didn’t get to spend as much time here as I would’ve liked to… will have to return!
