The best time to visit Umfolozi for prime wildlife viewing is during the dry winter months, from May to September.During this period, the vegetation is sparser, making it easier to spot animals in the bush. Water sources become scarce, so animals congregate around rivers and waterholes, providing excellent photographic opportunities. The cooler temperatures are also more comfortable for extended game drives. This time of year is especially good for couples or solo travellers who want to maximise their wildlife encounters. The wet summer months, from October to April, bring lush green landscapes and many newborn animals, which can be delightful for families. While game viewing can be more challenging due to the dense foliage, it's a fantastic time for birdwatching as migratory species arrive.
