Sitting on the edge of an ancient volcano caldera, this heritage dairying town is perfectly positioned near to dense rainforests, remarkable mountains and a large dam.

The small historic village of Uki lies within some of New South Wales’ most verdant landscapes. Under the shadow of the rainforest-clad peak of Mount Warning (Wollumbin), Uki’s charming town centre features several heritage buildings and a museum dedicated to the region’s dairying industry. Delve into the mystical sub-tropical rainforests in the surrounding national parks and learn about the fascinating ecology of this ancient natural wonder.

Stroll through the township to see well-preserved historic architecture. Check out the Mount Warning Hotel, the bank building and an old factory that once produced the region’s famous butter. The local community still has a strong focus on dairying. Try delicious cheeses and dairy products at the Uki Buttery Bazaar Market on the third Sunday of every month at Uki Hall. Some of the region’s finest emerging and established artists show their work at Gallery 100, Uki’s local art gallery.

Head out on the Rainforest Way and pass some of the region’s renowned ancient rainforests. Visit Mount Warning (Wollumbin) National Park to experience the superb wilderness of this volcanically formed landscape. The mountain is a sacred site for the Bundjalung Aboriginal people. While it is possible to hike to its peak, respect the cultural heritage of the mountain’s traditional custodians when exploring the trails.

Visit nearby Clarrie Hall Dam for a pleasant day fishing or kayaking. Pack a picnic and spot the different species of native waterbirds, such as the endangered black-necked stork.

Uki has a wide range of lodging options, from self-contained cabins to the full sensory experience of an eco retreat. Learn about the region’s fascinating history at nearby Tweed River Regional Museum.

The village is located in northeast New South Wales in the foothills of Mount Warning. The Gold Coast Airport is approximately a 40-minute drive away. Uki is accessible via the scenic roads, Tweed Valley Way and the Rainforest Way. Uki provides a pretty and relaxed stopover on your North Coast road trip.
