Gunter Retreat - Four Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 10

This is a great spot for those who like to get away from the bustle of city life, relax in the countryside, swim and fish. Although this Haliburton cottage rental is off the beaten path, it’s got a lot to offer for a tranquil vacation at any time of the year. And Gunter Retreat is a great place to stay.

This spacious cottage has everything you need to enjoy your holiday. A large open plan living, kitchen and dining area with bar stools lining the breakfast bar, it will comfortably accommodate a larger family or two families vacationing together. The screened sunroom off the dining area has a patio table and chairs for enjoying the outside while being protected from the occasional bug at dawn and dusk, and the large deck is big enough to lay back and take in the sun or eat outside when the mood takes you.

To one side of the house, the primary bedroom has sliding doors to the deck and an ensuite bathroom with a second bedroom opposite. To the other side are the third bedroom and bunk room with another bathroom. Stacking washer and dryer in a closet space provides the laundry service we all want on vacation.

The lower level is an unfinished basement games room complete with pool table, foosball, dart board, children's craft table as well as a games table & chairs and an assortment of board games! It is accessible for getting out onto the waterfront side of the house, where you will find lawned garden and access to the water. The stepped approach to the lake brings you down to a sandy waterfront that is shallow with hard sand underfoot. The water deepens gradually. You can fish right off the dock or swim platform. The cottage rental includes 2 canoes, 2 sit-on top kayaks, 2 pedal boats, and a paddleboard for your enjoyment.

This is a great area for exploring. Bancroft is just 35 minutes to the north for supermarkets, craft shops and restaurants, or take a meandering country road to Egan Chute Provincial Park and picnic by the Falls. To the west is Coe Hill, Chandos Lake and a little further onto Silent Lake Provincial Park. You might find that the best time is at the cottage; swimming, fishing and just having a completely relaxing time.

• Location is just under 3 hours north and east of Toronto; 35 minutes south of Bancroft


• 1 dog permitted, but no cats or other pets


• Please note that, according to the municipality’s bylaws, all dogs must be leashed or tethered on the property when outside. Dogs are not permitted to roam leash-free.


• There is a large cottage partially visible to one side, but trees provide privacy, and there is complete privacy on the other side.

Waterfront

Waterfront is a southern exposure. There is grass to the shoreline where there is a narrow stretch of gravelly sand and a hard packed sandy and shallow walkout into the lake. There is a dock and the water deepens towards the end of it.

Close-By Attractions

• McGeachie Conservation Area. McGeachie Conservation Area features a network of well-marked walking trails winding through hardwood forests, wetlands, beaver ponds, and creeks—ideal for hiking, snowshoeing, and biking. (10 mins)


• Bancroft Playhouse. This lovely theatre in downtown Bancroft produces many musical shows and plays throughout the year, with films from the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) circuit and family friendly shows. (30 mins)


• Riverside Park, Bancroft. Riverfront park with skatepark, playground, small beach, and a trail along the riverside. Bancroft Mineral Museum is also located in the park. (30 mins)


• CN Rock Pile. The CN RockPile is made up of materials that were brought in from the Golden-Keene Quarry for the construction of the Town's railway, and now, anyone is free to collect minerals here to create or expand their collections! (30 mins)


• Winter Activities. Ice fishing is available (when ice conditions permit - on the lake - equipment is not provided.

House Rules (requirements which must be met in order to book): This cottage rents from Saturday to Saturday only during high season (end of July until Labour Day). Total guests permitted 10 (max 6 adults). Lead guest must be 30+ years of age. 1 well-behaved dog welcome. Bed linens are provided but please bring your own towels. No parties allowed. A supplemental information form must be completed to finalize the booking (under 5 min to complete) which includes information on the guests and confirms agreement to our rental agency's terms and conditions. Garbage and recycling removal prior to departure is required.
