The positives: The hotel is in a delightful location with peaceful surroundings. The breakfasts were amazing - high quality and well presented.
The negatives: We paid for a superior room, but there is little superiority about room 5 - it is above the bar/entertainment room and gets very noisy until after 11pm. The bed was clean, however parts of the room had not been cleaned properly for months (see example picture) - the dust was present on picture frames, dresser mirror, light fittings, to name but a few. The bathroom had been repainted, but someone forgot the door which had peeling paint on the lower half plus the silicone sealant around bath and basin was well past its glory days. The carpet in the room needs replacing or a thorough clean. The stairways and halls are desperately in need of a complete overhaul, the carpet is filthy and the walls dirty. The common areas downstairs including the reception and bar had lovely flagstone floors but they need a deep clean.
In summary: It is an old building and one expects quirks, which is lovely, but the cleanliness standards and general state of the décor is not up to the specification one expects for just under £90
