Tigre

The stunning forests, lakes, active volcanos and caves of Northern Plains attract visitors from the world over. When you stay in Tigre, you'll have first-class passes.

Tigre Vacation Packages

San Jose can be found around 35 miles to the south of Tigre, while Cartago sits 40 miles to the south.

If you're longing to reconnect with the sights and sounds of Mother Nature, make your way to Rara Avis Waterfall, located 10 miles from Tigre. Also consider La Paz Waterfall Gardens, 20 miles away.

Experience the exhilaration during game day at Palace of Sports. It's in Heredia, 30 miles to the south of Tigre. After the game, hang out with the locals in one of the nearby bars.

San Juan–La Selva Biological Corridor and Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Mixto Maquenque are equally well worth visiting.

Try to get out to Sarapiqui. It's 5 miles away from Tigre, and where you can find San Agustin Church and Costa Rica Nature Pavilion. Horquetas is another good option. It's located a handy 7 miles out of Tigre. Take a look around town and swing by Mini Zoo and Jardin Yori and Heliconia Island.

You need to head 25 miles southwest from Tigre to find Poasito. There's so much to see and do there, such as Colinas del Poas, Toucan Rescue Ranch and Doka Estate. Finca Verde Lodge Private Tours and Poas Volcano National Park are additional sites that will keep you busy.

It's hard to yell at your kids after you've been shore fishing. Bird watching is another pleasant way to wash away your troubles in Northern Plains.

Take five from touring around and spend some time in the water wind surfing or kite surfing.

Spend some time exploring the region's craft workshops. These cultural hotspots are popular among visitors, especially when the weather is less than perfect.

Rejuvenate your mind, body and soul with the help of some pleasant outdoor attractions. This region offers a nice assortment of open-air markets.

It almost seems as if time is standing still as you walk through the traditional villages of Northern Plains.

Trying out different cuisines is one of the best ways to learn about a destination. So be sure to visit some of this region's bars, cafés and restaurants.

Nothing compares to fresh, local ingredients. You'll soon find out that pork and chicken are popular choices here.

Some popular meals worth taste-testing are casado and arroz con pollo (rice and chicken).

Do you have a bit of a sweet tooth? Order some tres leches (custard flan)

Most bars will have Bavaria on offer. Order a few pints for your pals and you'll soon discover what makes this beer so popular.

If you're in the mood for something non-alcoholic, fresco de frutas (fruit shake) is a nice alternative.

To wrap up a great night, have a few sips of Ron Centenario, a well-known spirit.

Communicate with the locals by trying to speak some Spanish. ¿Cuánto cuesta? is Spanish for how much is this. Good morning is another good one to have in your bag of tricks, so try pronouncing Buenos días.

Visiting on the 15th of September means you'll enjoy a good look at Independence Day.

Unfortunately, every vacation must eventually end. As the sun sets on your Tigre getaway, say "Hasta la vista", get rid of the last of your colones, and think back to all the great times you've had.

When your departure time is nearing, know that Juan Santamaria International Airport is about 35 miles to the southwest.
