Traditional Cottage Experience with Modern Amenities
Loved the decor! Slightly funky, with a nod to the past. Favorite areas of the cottage were the dining room, back porch room, and the front porch. First floor bath is beautiful! Despite instructions, I struggled with the Aga stove and oven. Location is ideal!

This cottage was perfect for relaxing with our family & dog after exploring Harbor Country! Quiet location yet close to restaurants & shopping by foot, & a short drive to New Buffalo, wineries & beach. Would definitely stay again!

Wonderful weekend in Three Oaks!
Kelly was wonderful updating me on the weather before we came into town. The home was cozy with lots of space for a family of 5. Our 3 kiddos loved the loft room and we enjoyed taking walks and playing board games. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Beautifully renovated farmhouse in a very quiet neighborhood
It was perfect. Loved the renovations and the rustic aspects of the house they were able to keep. Plenty of space, had everything we needed. Nice huge side yard with tons of privacy.

Perfect for our multi-family dunes trip.
This house is tucked into the most charming neighborhood. Every morning and evening I walked my dog and admired the homes and their classic gardens. The children loved the loft bedroom with the ladder and the yard was perfect for running around. Really enjoyed having the whole family around the big farm table for meals we prepared on the AGA stove. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. I usually bring extra things along like sheets and towels, but this house was fully stocked. Even with 10 people in the house, everyone was able to find their own favorite little spot. The adults spent most of the time in the little window room off of the kitchen, drinking our coffee and watching the rabbits and birds. The host left us a welcome basket with everything about Three Oaks village and the local wineries, such a nice touch. We spent one afternoon in the village, we enjoyed pizza from Patellis, whiskey from Journeyman, fresh bologna from the butcher shop, and the kids enjoyed the antique stores. We came for the dunes and beach, but Three Oaks and Mod Cottage gave us a home away from home.

My family had a great stay at the Mod Cottage in Three Oaks, Michigan. The cottage was clean, well-decorated, and located on a quiet street. It’s in walking distance to downtown Three Oaks and a short drive to wineries, New Buffalo, and Warren State Park. We highly recommend for those looking to bike, golf, and shop.

Pet friendly, brought the entire family - three boys under 10. Just as described. Kelly was easy to work with and very communicative. Huge yard , plenty of place to relax. Cozy and spacious at the same time. Would recommend.

Pleasant stay
We had a pleasant stay. A bottle of wine and a note wishing us a Happy New Year was a nice touch. Kitchen was fully equipped. Some dishes however, we’re not very clean. And, just like other reviewer/s noted, we were not fans of separate hot and cold water faucets in the downstairs bathroom. We ended up forgetting a bag in the fridge full of unopened bottles of alcohol and food. Even though it was our fault, it would have been nice if somebody had contacted us to acknowledge left items behind, that did not happen.

The house was perfect for our family. We attended a wedding at the Journeymen Distillery which was only about a half mile from the home. It was clean, plenty of linen, pillows and space. Kelly was a quick responder to any questions throughout the process.

Very Pleasant House
My parents, my spouse and our two kids spent Thanksgiving weekend at the house. The kitchen and dining room worked out very well in preparing and enjoying our meal. The house was very comfortable and the bed rooms were great. My parents used the first floor master, our kids used the loft, our dog used the small guest bedroom upstairs 😀, and my wife and I used the larger upstairs bedroom. The house was very comfortable and cozy in the right ways. It was very easy to communicate with the host and the cute little town of Three Oaks is in easy walking distance of the house. Definitely recommend this place.

First of all, the host was great. She would get back to me immediately whenever I contacted her. The property, however, was not what I would have expected. I've never stayed at a VRBO so maybe my expectations were higher than they should have been. There was no soap in the house so we had to go out and buy some. The sink in the primary bedroom and two faucets, one for hot and one for cold so there was no way to get warm water! The bed was like a rock and very uncomfortable. The sheet on the bed has a stain. All in all, it was okay, but I would not stay there again.

Wonderful!
Beautiful house and large yard for family fun. The house was immaculate and very comfortable for our family spanning ages 80- 3 year old. Able to grill outside and enjoy large yard. Quick walk to downtown Three Oaks for ice cream and shopping. Pretty drive using the backroads to beaches. Enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and being away from it all. Highly recommend! The owner was responsive and gracious to all of our questions and needs.

Our entire group was very impressed with this property. Plenty of room for all of us to spread out comfortably. Our younger kids loved the cozy loft and trundle bed! No problems at all. Perfect home for our family
Kelley, property manager and owner, was responsive to all questions and did a lot of leg work when she learned that a big storm had knocked out power to all surrounding areas including the cottage. She was in constant communication to ensure that lights were on and the the home was comfortable when we arrived. We were in town for 4 days to celebrate my cousins wedding at The Journeyman Distillery. The home was complete and comfortable. Thank you.

a quaint, quiet and cozy place to stay
The "Mod Cottage" has lots of charm! Friendly and cozy inside. Nice mix of maintaining the origins of the house and creating a modern setting for a family to call headquarters while in the area for a big family gathering/Celebration of Life. The nearby village of Three Oaks is charming, with some great cafes, vintage and upscale shops. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. The main "less than optimal" aspect was a serious lack of lighting! Kitchen, living room and bedrooms were not adequately outfitted with lighting. We had to borrow lamps from family members so that we could read at night! The lighting in the kitchen was minimal, dull and not conducive to fun with cooking. There were only 4 dinner knives for "place setting for 10 guests"..... And one frying pan, which was wobbly and not nearly big enough to cook anything for the 7 of us. The owner was prompt in returning calls when we had issues with operating the wonderful stove/oven and the DVD player (which didn't work). So it was a mixed bag. But...fix the things that we found inadequte and we would happily return for another stay!

Great location. Very roomy. Excellent hosts. Close to downtown three oaks. Loft was extra fun for the kiddos. Probably for the future could have used a few extra towels/washcloths/hand towels based on number of folks staying and length of time we were there. Very well stocked kitchen. Enjoyed the book of house renovations to see how far the house had come. Owners did a great job with renovation. Ceiling of loft and outside could both use repainting but thats purely cosmetic. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

4th of July family trip
Definitely recommend this cute, very nicely decorated home. The owner, Kelly, was very helpful and quick to respond to questions. My family, all adults, loved the house, the yard for games and the small town flavor that Three Oaks has! It has just the right amount of shops and cafes/restaurants. Froelich’s and Journeyman’s distillery were favorites. Only 10 minutes to New Buffalo beaches and shops and 25 mins to wineries. Best of both worlds …. small peaceful, fun town close to entertaining things to do in surrounding area. We will be back!! David L from Western suburbs of Chicago.

Beautiful getaway home
We had a lovely time in this beautifully restored and comfortably decorated cottage. Nice large yard. Walkable neighborhood and such a close walk to the shops and restaurants in Three Oaks. A very easy and short drive to the beach in New Buffalo and not a far drive to Warren Dunes beach, among others. On our first night there, unfortunately the power was going on and off for several hours and, though it was out of her control, Kelly was very responsive to my texts regarding the issue and made some great suggestions for getting out and exploring while we waited for the power to come back and stay on.

We absolutely loved our stay in Three Oaks! It is a darling, peaceful hidden gem that is in the perfect location away from the hub of New Buffalo but a quick drive to the beach. The only thing that would've made our stay perfect would be smart TVs. At the end of the day we would've liked to be able to log into Netflix or a similar streaming service to zone out to before bed. But even without that option we loved our stay immensely.

Best VRBO experience EVER
This is our second stay at the Mod Cottage in Three Oaks. The house is absolutely charming! The walkability to downtown is is a great feature—shopping and restaurants snd Journeyman’s Distillary is just a five minute trek. But it is the decor, layout and positive vibe of this rehabbed little farmhouse that make it a house we hope to return to again and again. Kelly is a remarkable host, and, as an interior designer, she has a keen and artful eye for decor. When we pulled out of the driveway to leave, our three daughters all said, “Goodbye house.” This has been the best experience with a home rental we have ever had.

My family and I were looking for a place to stay for a few weeks around the New Buffalo/Three Oaks area to get away from Chicago. The property provided a large yard for our kids to play, a cottage with enough living space that we weren't on top of each other, and an extremely responsive owner. We could ask for much more.

We LOVED this house! It was super cozy! The whole family hung out in the back porch room alot. We loved everything about it! The stove was awesome to cook on, and the dining room table left plenty of room for our party of 8 to eat all together. My very only complaint was the kids tv remote was out of batteries so the kids couldnt watch the dvd player (no satellite in kids room, only dvd's.) Wasnt a big deal for us as we arnt huge TV watchers but would be nice on a rainy day to have! We will definitely stay here again! Neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful! 5 stars for sure!

A gem of a house and location for exploring Harbor Country!
Six of us stayed at the Mod Cottage - grandparents, parents, kids - and we all agreed the location was amazing. We loved walking to the the little downtown of Three Oaks and taking walks around the neighborhood after dinner. We visited Notre Dame, New Buffalo, Warren Dunes State Park, and several other beaches - all were a quick and easy drive from the Mod Cottage. The sun room is WONDERFUL and we all enjoyed it for different reasons. I loved reading and playing cards. The kids enjoyed watching TV and harassing the adults while reading. ;-) The kids also loved the sleeping loft - big hit with them. All of the adults spent hours on the large, covered front porch enjoying morning coffee, laughing, and talking. We cooked at least one meal a day and usually two. There were pans, dishes, etc. available. I agree with an earlier reviewer that the Aga stove looks very cool and I know they are high end but it's oddly compartmentalized so you'll have to do a bit of Tetris to figure out placement if you're baking multiple things. The large dining table (made from original wood from the house!) was great for our family meals and games. The exterior does need a repainting but am sure that's on the list! We were surprised with a Civil War re-enactment on our last day in Three Oaks which was enjoyed by all. A few of our favorite places to eat: - Froehlich's is in downtown Three Oaks and easily walkable. Great and cute little place for morning chai latte or coffee and a slice of quiche or pastry. - Mooney's Blue Moon Ice Cream is also in downtown Three Oaks and easily walkable. TONS of flavors and very reasonably priced. - Luisa's Cafe and Harbert's Swedish Bakery - short drive and SO good. One thing to note, one of us can't have gluten and this was, by far, the most gluten friendly place we found. They have gluten free options in the restaurant and gluten free cookies, scones, and brownies. The GF lump crab cake with spicy aioli is worth writing home about! - Redamak's - short drive but good comfort food and surprisingly good salads given most of their items are fried (but oh, so tasty). Friendly staff and reasonably priced. CASH ONLY. All that said, we would absolutely rent the fantastic Mod Cottage again and all agree it was a wonderful week together as a family with something for everyone and good, quality time.

Lovely old remodeled farmhouse. You can see all the love the owners put into this remodeled home. It was very comfortable for our family of 10. The kids loved the loft area and gave them a great area to play. The vast yard was great for the kids to explore. The kitchen was well stocked with the necessities and there was an endless supply of clean towels and linens. It was great to use the washer and dryer after days at the beach. The drive to Warren state park was only 15 minutes and we could easily walk around the town. I highly recommend this property.

Wedding Week Stay
We chose this property for its proximity to The Blissful Barn where our daughter was married this weekend. It accommodated our family of 8 perfectly. We enjoyed visiting on the large covered porch throughout the day. Our grandsons loved climbing into the loft to sleep. We walked easily into Three Oaks for breakfast and dinner. The owner Kelly responded quickly when I had questions before our arrival. I would definitely recommend this property.

We stayed at this house for my son’s wedding. My husband and I, his mother, our daughter and her husband, and our son “the groom.” If you’re looking at this property...look no further! We chose this home for it’s close proximity to Journeyman’s which is where his wedding took place this past weekend. The location was perfect! Nice for walks to the cute town or around the neighborhood. We highly recommend the Three Oaks Sub Shop on Elm St. for a quick lunch! The house is SUPER CUTE! Kelly and her family have done a great job with the decor. The house feels like home when you walk in. All beds are comfy. Kudos to the cleaning crew as it was spotless on our arrival. The groomsmen used the large upstairs bedroom and bathroom to get ready. The front porch and large (I think it’s a magnolia) tree in the backyard provided great backdrops for photos. Kelly is very easily accessible...and I truly appreciated all of her quick replies. Thank you, again, for the perfect pre wedding home away from home!
