The city of Rockhampton is located smack bang on the Tropic of Capricorn, a line of latitude that marks the most southerly point where the sun is directly overhead on the summer solstice. Visit the Capricorn Spire to see exactly where the tropic runs through Rockhampton. Customs House is another important sight in the city. The arrival point for migrants moving to Australia in the 19th century, the imposing building is a great place to learn about the city’s origins. The Botanic Gardens, Rockhampton Heritage Village and the nearby Mount Etna Caves National Park are also well worth a look during your stay.
