Arcos de Valdevez is a beautiful little town on the outskirts of the Peneda Geres National Park in northern Portugal. The quaint cobbled streets and sleepy bars flow out onto the promenade which runs along the river. On warm summer afternoons the shallow waters are filled with bathers seeking refuge from the heat.

Beautiful beautiful Peneda de Gerês National Park. There are loads of waterfalls, river gorges and hiking trails along with traditional Portuguese villages. Every hiker and waterfall chaser should make a visit. We stayed in Campo de Gerês and spent a couple of days driving and hiking in the area. There is always a chance to see them in the Serra da Soajo, but this time there were at least 20 of them.
