5. State Theatre

The State Theatre has been a Portland icon since 1929. Today it remains one of the coolest concert venues in the city. Bringing together a mix of Spanish, Italian and Art Deco styles, plus a state-of-the-art Wurlitzer organ, balconies, paintings and gilded furnishings, it was indicative of the exuberance of the late 1920s. Though it gradually fell into disrepair, it has recently been completely transformed into an intimate 1,870-seat hall that retains many of the lavish details of the original building.
