Dierre (Indre-et-Loire) Ecluse de Vallet à Dierre. A needle dam in 1840, with its lock and weir. La commune est située sur les bords du Cher, où se trouve un des barrages* à aiguilles avec écluse et déversoir, de 1840. Le barrage fait 51 mètres de long. Le barrage a été détruit en partie en octobre 2012*, il a été remis en état en juillet 2015, par la pose de 63 aiguilles (Nouvelle République du 18/7/2015). En face à gauche, sur la commune d'Athée-sur-Cher, le logis privé de La Falaise, construit au XIXe siècle dans le style néogothique. L'annuaire de Tours et Indre et Loire de 1905 nous apprend que le moulin juste en face de l'écluse était une usine électrique. Elle figure toujours dans l'annuaire de 1939. Subsistent 10 barrages (sur 16) de ce type dont 7 en Indre-et Loire. Chaque barrage est constitué d’un déversoir fixe (maçonnerie), d’un barrage mobile à aiguilles et d’une écluse. Une maison éclusière offre deux logements symétriques pour l’éclusier et le barragiste et des parties communes. La canalisation du Cher sur 61 kms de Noyers à Tours fut entreprise en 1836, pour prolonger le canal du Berry lui même construit de 1828 à 1840. Le 15 Octobre 2012, de fortes pluies annoncées à l'avance entraînent la destruction plusieurs barrages.
