Tabula Traiana (Trajan’s Plaque) is the last remaining piece of evidence an ancient Roman bridge. The tablet features Latin inscriptions telling of Trajan’s bridge; the longest bridge in the world for 1,000 years following its construction. Emperor Trajan completed the road across the Danube leading into Dacia. The bridge was 1,097 m long and 20 column supported the architectural masterpiece.

In 1969, because of the Djerdap Project, building a dam over Danube river, Trajan's carvings with the inscription / Trajan's Plaque was protected from sinking by raising it by 20/25 m. It was placed just above the original location, cutting and fixing the entire block of the old bearing - a stone monolith together with the inscription and part of the road, about 300 tons in weight.

'Located on the 45th parallel north, Bigăr Waterfall is extremely delicate and unusual, with a water curtain falling down some lush green vegetation, and is set in a very remote, peaceful, and picturesque area of Romania, where the rolling hills create a real fascination for the authenticity of our nation’s past. On our way back to the main road, we made another detour to see the water mills at Eftimie Murgu, some of them still functional, and smell the freshly ground cereal grains.'

Bigar waterfall in Romania is definitely a hidden gem. It's quite small and perhaps not as impressive as some of the larger waterfalls but its setting in the lush forest makes it just as magical. Worth a visit for sure! Having your own wheels and an updated gps map certainly helps. #waterlust
