Allowing you the unforgettable chance to interact with your favorite animals, the Theater of the Sea is one of the main attractions on the Florida Keys. Based in a former quarry, the pools and lagoons of this picturesque park let you get close to marine mammals. Bring your whole family to meet the dolphins, rays and sea lions in this fun and entertaining complex. As you make your way around the park, stop at the various exhibits, including the nurse sharks area, the tropical reef fish display and the iguana section. You can also visit the birds of prey enclosure and study the colorful macaws and cockatoos of the parrot zone. Check the schedule for the Parrot Show, the Sea Lion Show and the Bottomless Boat Ride that floats along the lagoon. The park’s highlight is the chance to swim with rays, sea lions, dolphins and even sharks. Go for a dip alongside the majestic creatures and feed the crocodiles and sea turtles. Head to the park’s Lagoon-Side Beach and find a spot on the sand to sunbathe. Cool down with a swim in the water. Bring your snorkeling gear to check out the array of colorful fish around you. Enjoy a meal at the grill bar and purchase drinks at any of the vending machines. Choose between varied tickets for numerous activities, from general admission and animal programs to boat cruises and swimming with rays. You can book online, by phone or in person at the ticket counter. The park runs daily from morning until late afternoon. The Theater of the Sea is in the southwestern part of the Windley Key islet in the Florida Keys chain. Drive south from Homestead for 45 miles (72 kilometers) to arrive here in about an hour.
