The Boothbay Playhouse

The customer service at this Best Western was very good, and the staff we interacted with were friendly. The beds were clean and comfortable, and I appreciated having a Keurig in the room. Unfortunately, the condition and cleanliness of the room itself left a lot to be desired. The wallpaper was bubbling and peeling in several areas, and there were flies in the room. The shower curtain was yellowed and visibly dirty, with what appeared to be mold on it, and the shower curtain rod was coming loose from the wall. There were also broken tiles and areas of rust on the ceiling. Most concerning was a chair in the room that had noticeable white stains on it. I obviously cannot say what the substance was, but given its appearance, it was extremely unpleasant and made us question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned. Additionally, the hotel appears to be filled with permanent residents. As a veteran, one thing that bothered me was the condition of the American flag outside the hotel. It was visibly tattered, and in need of replacement. I understand that flags are exposed to the elements and wear over time, but once a flag reaches that condition, it should be retired and replaced. For me, seeing the flag displayed that way was disappointing and showed a lack of attention to something that deserves basic care and respect. The room needs significant maintenance and a much more thorough cleaning. With some attention to housekeeping and repairs, this could be a much better stay.

This gem of an inn is exactly what you want when traveling. They are doing everything right! The accommodations were roomy and comfortable. Really nice common area for meeting other guest and relaxing. Kitchen with plenty of options for breakfast or and afternoon snack. And the view was spectacular! We would absolutely return.
