Courban
9.0 out of 10, Wonderful, (177 reviews)
"A beautiful chateau, full of charm and character. The room we stayed in was stunning, beautifully quiet with a massive bed. Facilities excellent in terms of pools and spa. Staff were all very welcoming and spoke many languages. The highlight is the restaurant which has a choice of set menus which were quite simply amazing and the wine list very extensive. If you want a pamper weekend away in a glorious setting, this is the place. We will be going back, no doubt about it. Highly, highly...

"When I arrived at this property the owner finally answered the door, she said she had no knowledge of my booking. Finally I had to email her a copy of my confirmation. This wasn't made any easier by her statement that "she spoke no English" - the website clearly states multilingual staff. (In fact it later became clear she did speak English). The 'living-room' is actually set out as a shop and did not feel welcoming - I was not invited to use it anyway. The only restaurant in Salives was unable...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Terrefondrée?
The best area to stay in Terrefondrée is the village centre itself, particularly around the Church of Saint-Pierre.

This small, historic village is the heart of the region's charm. The main activities and sights are clustered around the Church of Saint-Pierre and the few streets immediately surrounding it, such as Rue de l'Église and Rue du Lavoir. You'll find a selection of local eateries and a small grocery store here. It's a very walkable area, allowing you to easily explore the village's historic buildings and enjoy its quiet atmosphere.

Couples looking for a romantic escape will find the village centre ideal. The tranquil setting, coupled with opportunities for wine tasting at nearby vineyards and enjoying local French cuisine, makes it a great base for a relaxed holiday. Many accommodations in this area are beautifully restored guesthouses with a personal touch.

For families, staying in or just outside the village centre provides the convenience of amenities while offering easy access to the surrounding countryside for outdoor activities. There are often gîtes or larger holiday homes available with gardens, providing space for children to play.
When is the best time to go to Terrefondrée?
The best time to go to Terrefondrée is typically during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October).

These months offer pleasant weather, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the region's vineyards and countryside. The spring brings blooming landscapes and fewer crowds, while early autumn provides the grape harvest season, which is a great experience. You'll find the local markets bustling with fresh produce and the wineries actively engaged in production.

For those interested in wine tasting and vineyard tours, September is particularly good as it coincides with the vendanges (grape harvest). Many local estates offer special events and opportunities to see the winemaking process first-hand. It's a fantastic time for couples to enjoy the romantic scenery and culinary delights of the region.

If you prefer warmer weather for outdoor activities like cycling or hiking, July and August are also good options, though they can be busier with holidaymakers.
