Inside, the kitchen-dining room has been refurbished, and has beautiful flagstone floors. With plenty of worktop space and a dining table to seat four, it is very well-equipped with electric oven and hob, washer-dryer, dishwasher, kettle toaster and microwave. The living room is wonderfully homely and welcoming with a wood-burning stove, leather recliner sofas and freeview TV, perfect to relax and unwind after a day of exploring in the fresh air. There is also an additional table and chairs in the living room, great for jigsaws, crosswords and poring over the OS map planning the next days route! Stairs from the living room lead to the first floor, where the cosy bedrooms have a lovely cottage feel with old exposed beams and sloping ceilings. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and the second has two singles. The bathroom is also up on the first floor and has a full size bath with an electric shower over. The cottage is situated in the courtyard opposite the owner's house, where there a picnic bench on the gravelled area to sit out and enjoy the afternoon sun, and also off-road parking for one car. The gate to the road can be closed if needed, for the safety of young children. There is also a selection of pets including chickens, rare breed Zwartbles sheep and Shetland ponies, which the owners will happily take guests across the fields to see. The high wall on the cottage end has given Fives Court its name, being historically used to play the ancient ball game of Fives, and is one of only six remaining walls from such an early date across all of Somerset and Dorset. The village of North Cheriton is a designated conservation area, and is an ideal base for walking with lots of circular walks straight from the door using country lanes and footpaths. The two closest pubs are The Old Inn at Holton, which is a very pleasant 3/4 mile walk and is dog friendly, and The White Horse, which is a short drive at approx a mile away. The small town of Wincanton is only 3 miles away and has supermarkets, a post office, pubs, restaurants, and a wide selection of take-aways. The larger town of Yeovil is roughly 12 miles distant. Local attractions include the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford, and Shaftesbury with the famous Gold Hill. The market town of Sherborne, with its Abbey and two Castles, is just 6 miles away. Many events such as Sherborne Country Fair, a Classic Car Show, and a Firework Extravaganza are held in the grounds of the new Sherborne Castle. There are many National Trust properties in the area including Stourhead with its world-famous 18th century garden, Montacute House, Lytes Cary Manor, and Barrington Court. At Longleat, there is the famous safari park as well as a beautiful stately home and garden. Close by are Wincanton Racecourse, and also the apple orchards and gardens of the Newt in Somerset. Near Shepton Mallet is the Bath and West Show Ground , which hosts many events, including a 3-day agricultural show in May. For steam enthusiasts, take a trip on the East Somerset Railway. Also within easy reach by car is the Jurassic Coast (World Heritage Site), popular with fossil hunters, with geological features such as Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, the harbour town of Lyme Regis with its famous Cobb harbour wall, and Abbotsbury with its swannery and gardens. There are some lovely sandy beaches, including Weymouth and Swanage. Chesil Beach and West Bay are popular with sea anglers. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating or friendly. We will be back. ##### Victoria From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Eva 6 Oct 2024 #### A cozy place home from home. The history and character of the “Fives Court Cottage” the location of the property (everything and everywhere just 20-30 mins away) and the very kind owners right there, if you needed anything! PET FRIENDLY … absolute essential for us! We found really everything we could possibly want for the short stay. The kitchen was very well equipped. The lounge really cosy with its log burner and our beds were very comfy. We are looking forward to going back there in the near future. Proximity and traffic noise from a busy road. ##### Eva From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Emilie 24 Nov 2024 #### Typical cottage, very pleasant. Well equipped for cooking, super comfortable beds. Walks nearby and from the cottage, tourist information of all types (walks and hikes information, slow tourism book, commercial brochures, etc.). Very complete equipment to accommodate a baby. There is a busy road just behind the cottage. The noise didn't bother us, but you have to be careful with your dog. The house is quite dark. ##### Emilie From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Ron 30 Oct 2023 #### Just what we wanted Very friendly owners. Relaxing cottage Don’t send a text on the morning the customer is leaving, reminding them to leave the cottage clean and to leave on time, threatening to take the security deposit. It left me with a bad feel about your company. I wouldn’t necessarily book with you again. Surely you would prefer repeat bookings even if there is the odd person leaving late. ##### Ron From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Philip 18 Nov 2025 #### Great place to go to and from Glastonbury festival Great place to go to and from Glastonbury festival ##### Philip From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Philip 3 Nov 2025 #### Great place to go to and from Glastonbury festival Great place to go to and from Glastonbury festival ##### Philip From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Vince 14 Aug 2025 #### We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful cottage with lovely surroundings and very friendly We would happily recommend this cottage as a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside. ##### Vince From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jade 23 Dec 2025 #### Beautiful, clean, cosy, homely and an old property. Has a lovely story behind it too. The owners were so friendly, kind, professional and helpful. I have recommended this property to friends and will continue to do so. Peaceful and private location. The beds were so comfortable. ##### Jade Verified ### 8/10 Good #### Robert H. 28 Apr 2025 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Excellent Small Cottage Convenient location for our other family activities. Well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable beds. ##### Robert H. Stayed 3 nights in Apr 2025 From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Phil 14 Aug 2025 #### We found this listed barn conversion a delight to stay in. It had so much charm with its thick stone walls, split stable doors, large exposed beams and it even had a little creak in the floor boards up stairs. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the home was very comfortable. We found so much to do around the area with ironic villages, beautiful and varied rambling hikes. Our host were very friendly and gave some great local information. Thank you again. ##### Phil Verified ### 10/10 Excellent #### Gillean R. 16 Jun 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Lovely area There is much to do in this area and we really enjoyed the countryside and were able to quickly access a lovely side road for strolls. The owners were very friendly and welcomed us with fresh cut flowers from their garden and a box of shortbread. ##### Gillean R. The lovely owners - Mr and Mrs Martin - ensure that everything is provided and are wonderful hosts. We especially enjoyed the wood burner on these chilly October evenings! Fives Court is in a great location with plenty of attractions nearby. There is also a supermarket with a café a couple of miles away which we found incredibly handy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fives Court and would not hesitate to stay again ##### Tamara Maria From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### SIMON 13 Dec 2022 #### A relaxing peaceful short break in Somerset We had a wonderful time at this property. The cosy and comfortable cottage was an ideal respite from busy city life. All of the living areas were nicely furnished and very condusive to relaxing, watching TV or reading. The combined kitchen and dining room provided more than enough space to cook and eat together. Our hosts were friendly but not intrusive. The local countryside, places of interest, pubs and restaurants provided many interesting and enjoyable times spent away from the cottage. We would definitely stay here again. The parking space was difficulty to maneouvre in and out of, but this was a small issue and did not impact on the enjoyment of our stay at all. It just made my father anxious as my car was only a couple of months old! ##### SIMON From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Richard 25 Jul 2022 #### Very friendly hosts, characterful, comfortable cottage in a great location for local attractions Very friendly hosts, characterful, comfortable cottage in a great location for local attractions. ##### Richard From a partner site ### 10/10 Excellent #### Caroline 5 Jul 2022 #### Lovely cottage, in a beautiful part of Somerset Lovely cottage, in a beautiful part of Somerset. No garden and a bit to close to a busy road so was not ideal for my dogs. ##### Margaret Eileen ### Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > - [The Skipton Hotel - Formerly Hotel Rendezvous](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skipton-Hotels-Hotel-Rendezvous.h41466.Hotel-Information) > - [OYO Shanklin Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Shanklin-Hotels-OYO-Shanklin-Beach-Hotel.h7539838.Hotel-Information) > - [Brock Cottage private Hot Tub DOG/Cat FRIENDLY\* with on site fishing](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Pickering-Hotels-Spacious-Stone-Cottage-DOG-FRIENDLY.h36805890.Hotel-Information) > - [Crafted at Powdermills](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Battle-Hotels-Powdermills-Country-House-Hotel.h195688.Hotel-Information) > - [Bear Lodge - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Bear-Lodge-Aspinall-Foundation.h40101484.Hotel-Information) > - [DoubleTree by Hilton London Elstree](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Borehamwood-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-London-Elstree.h18549.Hotel-Information) > - [Hampton by Hilton Canterbury](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Canterbury-Hotels-Hampton-Inn-Canterbury.h66541221.Hotel-Information) > - [Pinewood Camping Pods - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Pinewood-Apinall-Foundation.h40101599.Hotel-Information) > - [Exeter Rougemont hotel by Sunday](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-Exeter-Rougemont-Hotel-By-Sunday.h7784.Hotel-Information) > - [Mermaid, Ipswich by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ipswich-Hotels-Mermaid.h31883430.Hotel-Information) > - [Wild Rose Caravan Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Appleby-In-Westmorland-Hotels-Wild-Rose-Caravan-Park.h24459296.Hotel-Information) > - [Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sheffield-Hotels-The-Quays-Hotel-Sheffield.h46197620.Hotel-Information) > - [Kings Highway, Derby by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Derby-Hotels-Kings-Highway.h31887923.Hotel-Information) > - [Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burnley-Hotels-Crowwood-Hotel-Spa-Resort.h38222710.Hotel-Information) > - [Lock Keeper, Worksop by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Worksop-Hotels-Lock-Keeper.h27479298.Hotel-Information) > - [White Hart, Exeter by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-White-Hart.h11899395.Hotel-Information) > - [Skegness The Royal Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skegness-Hotels-The-Royal-Hotel-Skegness.h23931999.Hotel-Information) > - [The Swan Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Wells-Hotels-The-Swan-Hotel.h26791.Hotel-Information) > - [voco Leicester by IHG](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Leicester-Hotels-Voco-Leicester.h76596043.Hotel-Information) > - [The Stables Whitby](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-The-Stables-Whitby.h23322490.Hotel-Information) > - [Soar Mill Cove Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Salcombe-Hotels-Soar-Mill-Cove-Hotel.h2042032.Hotel-Information) > - [The Aviator, formerly Smugglers Cove, Clacton On Sea by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Clacton-On-Sea-Hotels-Smugglers-Cove-By-Marstons-Inns.h35853904.Hotel-Information) > - [Canterbury Bell, Margate by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Broadstairs-Hotels-Canterbury-Bell.h33103125.Hotel-Information) > - [Samsara Retreat and Yoga - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Maidstone-Hotels-Samsara-Retreat-And-Yoga.h41349775.Hotel-Information) > - [Seven Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Southend-On-Sea-Hotels-Seven-Hotel.h19282555.Hotel-Information) > - [Yeoldon House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bideford-Hotels-Yeoldon-House.h2764122.Hotel-Information) > - [Wild Thyme & Honey](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cirencester-Hotels-Wild-Thyme-Honey.h9241983.Hotel-Information) > - [Cromer Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cromer-Hotels-Cromer-Country-Club.h1927781.Hotel-Information) > - [Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/New-Milton-Hotels-Chewton-Glen-Hotel-Spa.h528432.Hotel-Information) ---
