The rehabilitation of this building earned Eduardo Souto de Moura, architect, the Pritzker Prize and the European Prize for Architectural Heritage Intervention in 2017\. The solid wood furniture and simple decoration faithfully maintain the original design of the project's author, giving the space the true balance envisioned for the entire endeavor. The Convent of the Bernardas, also known as the Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy, was the first convent to be established in the Algarve.
