Three tiny settlements -- Churchtown, Kingsbridge, and Pooltown -- nestle in a wooded valley at 600 feet. This is a deeply rural corner of Exmoor where farming and forestry have replaced the iron mining that once sustained the community. The ancient Church of St Mary in Churchtown dates back to the 13th century, with a medieval stone cross in its churchyard that is a scheduled ancient monument. Many of the cottages in the area are thatched, and the pace of life is wonderfully unhurried. The Washford River rises near Luxborough and flows through the valley, giving the hamlet of Pooltown its name from the many pools along its course. The surrounding woodland is rich with wildlife -- red deer, buzzards, and woodland birds are regularly spotted. Luxborough has no shops or general stores. The nearest everyday amenities are in **Dunster** (6 miles north), which has a good range of independent shops, a post office, butcher, and galleries. The market town of **Watchet** (7 miles northeast) and **Minehead** (9 miles north) offer supermarkets, pharmacies, and a wider range of services. Security Deposit Information A £60.00 security deposit is required. This will be added to the total price of your booking, and will be refunded after your stay unless the owner discovers damage to the property or its contents after your departure. ## Property amenities ### Internet - Available in the cottage: Internet access ### Parking and transport - Parking on site ### Food and drink - Dishwasher - Microwave - Oven ### Bedrooms - 2 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 2 bathrooms ### Living spaces - Fireplace ### Entertainment - TV ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Pets - Pet friendly ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) ### General - Garden - Property does not allow children ## Similar properties ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/90000000/89090000/89085700/89085650/c43a9ba6.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Old Malt House, Exton Nr Dulverton - Washing machine - Dryer - Pet-friendly - Outdoor space 8.8 Excellent 8 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2026-02-24&endDate=2026-02-25&selected=89085650&PinnedHotelID=89085650&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Smart TV](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/98000000/97010000/97001100/97001063/defe00f7.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Tilbury Farm View - Panoramic Views from a Holiday Cottage West Bagborough - Breakfast included - Kitchen - Washing machine - Dryer £190 includes taxes & fees 11 Feb - 12 Feb [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2026-02-11&endDate=2026-02-12&selected=97001063&PinnedHotelID=97001063&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Terrace/patio](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/109000000/108460000/108457200/108457190/6093d2ab.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### 2 bedroom accommodation in Creech St Michael Creech St Michael - Hot tub - Kitchen - Washing machine - Pet-friendly 10 Exceptional 3 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2026-02-24&endDate=2026-02-25&selected=108457190&PinnedHotelID=108457190&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/112000000/111630000/111626100/111626072/55cd0712.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Backwoods Annexe Tranquil Escape on the Edge of Minehead Minehead - Washing machine - Pet-friendly - Outdoor space - Parking available [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2026-02-24&endDate=2026-02-25&selected=111626072&PinnedHotelID=111626072&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Property grounds](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/114000000/113630000/113626100/113626006/43f2b225_edited_5107.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Relaxing retreat in an 1880's Chapel development, coastlines & national parks. The location is in a lovely area, the local pub (about a mile's walk away) serves local ales and has a good kitchen. The 4 star overall experience rating is a reflection of our preference, rather than something wrong (slouch sofas in low light make reading difficult). The place was immaculate and had all the amenities you need including kitchen towels, pans, plates, utensils etc. That were all still of good quality to use. The cottage itself although spacious felt very cozy and compact. There is also a good amount of work space in the kitchen so if you enjoy cooking, it’s a great prep place. Toiletries were also available and was of great quality. In addition, Annette kindly showed us where it was appropriate for us to take our dog for runs and walks. We also made use of the leaflets and local tips that they provided. Overall, it was a very lovely, peaceful place to stay in that had everything you needed. ##### Yani N. ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [Crafted at Powdermills](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Battle-Hotels-Powdermills-Country-House-Hotel.h195688.Hotel-Information) > > [Hampton by Hilton Canterbury](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Canterbury-Hotels-Hampton-Inn-Canterbury.h66541221.Hotel-Information) > > [Wild Rose Caravan Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Appleby-In-Westmorland-Hotels-Wild-Rose-Caravan-Park.h24459296.Hotel-Information) > > [White Hart, Exeter by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-White-Hart.h11899395.Hotel-Information) > > [The Stables Whitby](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-The-Stables-Whitby.h23322490.Hotel-Information) > > [Samsara Retreat and Yoga - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Maidstone-Hotels-Samsara-Retreat-And-Yoga.h41349775.Hotel-Information) > > [Cromer Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cromer-Hotels-Cromer-Country-Club.h1927781.Hotel-Information) > > [The Skipton Hotel - Formerly Hotel Rendezvous](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skipton-Hotels-Hotel-Rendezvous.h41466.Hotel-Information) > > [Bear Lodge - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Bear-Lodge-Aspinall-Foundation.h40101484.Hotel-Information) > > [Pinewood Camping Pods - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Pinewood-Apinall-Foundation.h40101599.Hotel-Information) > > [Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sheffield-Hotels-The-Quays-Hotel-Sheffield.h46197620.Hotel-Information) > > [Skegness The Royal Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skegness-Hotels-The-Royal-Hotel-Skegness.h23931999.Hotel-Information) > > [Soar Mill Cove Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Salcombe-Hotels-Soar-Mill-Cove-Hotel.h2042032.Hotel-Information) > > [Seven Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Southend-On-Sea-Hotels-Seven-Hotel.h19282555.Hotel-Information) > > [Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/New-Milton-Hotels-Chewton-Glen-Hotel-Spa.h528432.Hotel-Information) > > [OYO Shanklin Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Shanklin-Hotels-OYO-Shanklin-Beach-Hotel.h7539838.Hotel-Information) > > [DoubleTree by Hilton London Elstree](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Borehamwood-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-London-Elstree.h18549.Hotel-Information) > > [Exeter Rougemont hotel by Sunday](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-Exeter-Rougemont-Hotel-By-Sunday.h7784.Hotel-Information) > > [Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burnley-Hotels-Crowwood-Hotel-Spa-Resort.h38222710.Hotel-Information) > > [The Swan Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Wells-Hotels-The-Swan-Hotel.h26791.Hotel-Information) > > [The Aviator, formerly Smugglers Cove, Clacton On Sea by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Clacton-On-Sea-Hotels-Smugglers-Cove-By-Marstons-Inns.h35853904.Hotel-Information) > > [Yeoldon House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bideford-Hotels-Yeoldon-House.h2764122.Hotel-Information) > > [Brock Cottage private Hot Tub DOG/Cat FRIENDLY\* with on site fishing](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Pickering-Hotels-Spacious-Stone-Cottage-DOG-FRIENDLY.h36805890.Hotel-Information) > > [Chimney House Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sandbach-Hotels-Chimney-House-Hotel.h527768.Hotel-Information) > > [Mermaid, Ipswich by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ipswich-Hotels-Mermaid.h31883430.Hotel-Information) > > [Lock Keeper, Worksop by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Worksop-Hotels-Lock-Keeper.h27479298.Hotel-Information) > > [voco Leicester by IHG](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Leicester-Hotels-Voco-Leicester.h76596043.Hotel-Information) > > [Canterbury Bell, Margate by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Broadstairs-Hotels-Canterbury-Bell.h33103125.Hotel-Information) > > [Wild Thyme & Honey](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cirencester-Hotels-Wild-Thyme-Honey.h9241983.Hotel-Information) ---
