Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Taikako?
The best area to stay in Taikako is on the island's west coast, particularly around the villages of Sioban and Pasapuat, where many of the surf resorts are located.

This area is the primary destination for visitors to Taikako. It's characterised by its stunning coastline, palm-fringed beaches, and direct access to some of the region's best surf breaks. The villages themselves are small, offering a relaxed pace of life with local eateries and basic shops.

For surfers, this is the ideal location. Staying in a resort along the west coast means you're just a short boat ride, or even a paddle, away from world-class waves like "The Left" and "The Right." Many resorts offer packages that include boat transfers to various breaks, surf guides, and equipment hire, ensuring a seamless surfing holiday.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will also appreciate the west coast. The resorts often provide comfortable bungalows with ocean views, opportunities for snorkelling or paddleboarding in calm lagoons, and a chance to unwind away from crowds.
When is the best time to go to Taikako?
The best time to visit Taikako is during the dry season, which runs from May to September, to enjoy the best weather for outdoor activities.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of Taikako. This period is superb for those looking to spend their days surfing, diving, or simply relaxing on the beaches without the interruption of heavy downpours. The sea conditions are typically calmer, which is great for water sports and boat trips to nearby islands.

For travellers seeking excellent surfing conditions, the months of June, July, and August often offer the most consistent swells. This is when the waves are generally at their peak, attracting surfers from around the globe. While it's the most popular time, the rewards of catching world-class waves often outweigh the slightly larger crowds.

If you prefer a slightly quieter experience while still enjoying good weather, consider visiting in May or September. These shoulder months still offer plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures but with fewer visitors.
