The cottage is comfortable, and wonderfully situated in Lavenham, which is a great village - make sure you visit the butchers! This beautifully restored cottage has been thoughtfully and sensitively decorated. It is well stocked with everything you could possibly need and its garden is a beautiful and tranquil place to relax and unwind. The AGA cooker was a particularly wonderful surprise that added to the authenticity and pleasure we had during our stay. Highly recommended. ##### Jarren G. We enjoyed the history and atmosphere of the house and even though we’re both in our 80s we managed the twelve winding stairs between floors without and trouble. However, for less agile people or small children, these stairs could be a problem as the two main bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs. We loved the AGA and the warmth it provided. Sometimes it’s difficult to find a car park near the house as Water Street is a very busy street with through traffic. If you’re looking for historic accommodation in a very historic town and are prepared to manage the quirks at The Tryst, you will love this ancient house. ##### Lesleigh O. We spent cosy evenings in the Tudor beamed lounge watching Netflix (best of both worlds!) and enjoyed grand dinners in the historic dining room. The location is fantastic, just around the corner from the Guildhall and, even though it was so central, parking was really easy. While we did not use the garden (being October) it looked amazing and I imagine it would be wonderful in the summer. It is a beautiful example of the architecture of the period whilst being very cosy and homely. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the garden just off the kitchen at the back of the cottage, which is sunny and private. The kitchen was well equipped and although I’m unused to an aga, it proved easy enough to master. The two bedrooms upstairs were light spacious with comfy beds and quality bed linen. The downstairs bedroom with en-suite was a necessary feature for us as one of our party has restricted mobility. It was as described and perfect for our needs. The location of the cottage was brilliant-just off the main high street with an excellent pub/hotel on one corner and an Indian restaurant on the other corner-both just a couple of minutes walk away.Despite being on a main road, the cottage was quiet and there was always free parking outside. Also useful for us, was the ev charging station in the main town car park a ten minute walk away. Finally, I just want to say a special thank you for creating the in house guide book. Bursting with so much information on both the cottage, Lavenham itself and the area in general, as history buffs who enjoy a good pub, it was a pleasure to read! ##### Jane C. ### 6/10 Okay #### Lynne N. 4 Apr 2025 Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy Disliked: Cleanliness, communication #### Needs a thorough clean The Tryst is a lovely property, so convenient in the heart of Lavenham and although there is no designated parking, we didn't have any trouble parking outside although of course it is early in the season. The Aga is great and keeps the kitchen warm day and night. There is a constant supply of hot water, very comfortable beds and superb bedlinen. Being Grade I Listed, it took a while to navigate the slopes on the floors and although my partner and I are early seventies and fairly fit, I think some guests may find the stairs a bit tricky. The garden is fantastic and although end March/early April, we sat outside in the sunshine nearly every day. The downside for us was the overall cleanliness of the house. Although guests are told not to allow dogs on furniture, both the sofas were covered in dog hair and smelt badly, as did the rug in the lounge. The sofas need replacing and the whole house a thorough deep clean. It's a shame because overall we loved it. ##### Lynne N. The house was outstanding and full of festive atmosphere. The history of the house, the decor and the knot garden would definitely mean we would stay again in a heart beat. The surroundings were beautiful, plenty of places to walk our dog, great pubs and local shops, as well as plentiful historical buildings to admire. The only critic would be to highlight that there is only a small fridge with an internal freezer box. As we were a party of six we would have struggled with the xmas lunch food and provisions for the week but luckily our sons came later so we asked them to bring our plug in cool box!! I am sure many who stay go out to eat, but we love to cook. ##### Kirstie C. It was a privilege to stay in such a historic place which was full of character. There were a couple of small things that let it down though. The downstairs shower room was not very clean and in particular the extractor fan which was totally clogged. We were left a small welcome pack which included 3 individual jams which were all partly used and had to be thrown away. We felt that for a weeks stay perhaps more logs, fire lighters and toilet rolls would have been provided. We were of course told to phone with any issues but felt we wouldn’t as it was over new year. The cost of providing these things was minimal and the shops close by but it is these little things that make the stay special. We still had a wonderful time This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good 5 Dec 2022 #### a cosy place to stay in winter Lovely place to stay; warm, comfortable and inviting. Both log burner and AGA were easy to use. The 2 upstairs bedrooms were huge and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The bed linen was white crisp cotton. There was plenty of hot water and the heating could be adjusted appropriately. The garden bedroom was tiny but we knew it would be and the fridge was small and not easily accessible if you intend to do a lot of cooking for 5 or 6 people - but that's a very minor gripe. The stairs might be a bit hard to negotiate if you were infirm or very elderly. The enclosed garden was lovely and the boot room area was very useful. So many interesting twists and turns it really has the Wow factor. I kept the venue secret from my friends and they were absolutely blown away when they arrived. Thanks so much!! ##### Lisa H. The beds were incredibly comfortable; the Aga provided a cosy centre to the house. Situated just a few houses down Water Street from the Main Street in Lavenham, we were in a very handy position for the well-stocked Coop, butcher and chemist shops, as well as just a two minute walk to the Market Square. Lots of local info and walks provided in the house folder. No 10 and the Lavenham Greyhound were our favourite restaurants; the Sunday lunch at the Six Bells in Preston St Mary is out of this world and very reasonable! A proper pub. Be aware, if you have dogs, you will need to walk them five mins down the road for every pee and poo, as the back garden is not suitable for them. A minor problem in what was a wonderful stay. Many thanks! This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good 10 Jul 2022 #### Amazing property in Lavenham We had a lovely week at The Tryst. It’s an amazing old property with a gorgeous garden - spent some evenings eating outside, and others enjoying the restaurants Lavenham has to offer. For a property that is over 500 years old it’s got all the mod cons you require from a rental property. It’s also brilliantly located in the heart of this beautiful village. It has a lovely sunny cottage garden with a shaded seating area at the bottom. The cottage is steeped in history with beautiful period furniture. The 3 bedrooms all had such comfortable beds and heard no noise from outside so we all slept so well. The downstairs bedroom was perfect for my mother in law as she struggles with stairs she had double doors she could throw open into the beautiful garden and the sun would stream through.there was a lovely bathroom with shower downstairs also right next to her bedroom which was so handy, she didn't want to leave. We would sit outside in the morning having breakfast and soak up the morning sun and enjoy a bbq in the early evening sun too. We can't wait to return to the Tryst in the winter for a cosy break with a roaring fire. ##### David A. It has all the trappings of a Medieval dwelling, subtly blended with modern facilities to make it an ideal place to stay. The garden is beautiful and we were able to eat outside, as the weather was kind to us. We had an excellent birthday celebration dinner at No 10, only a few minutes walk from the front door. The Tryst certainly deserves it's Five Star Rating and I would not hesitate to recommend it ##### Richard L. ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [The Black Lion, Long Melford](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sudbury-Hotels-The-Black-Lion.h4111341.Hotel-Information) > > [ORIDA Maidstone Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Maidstone-Hotels-ORIDA-Maidstone-Hotel.h74419166.Hotel-Information) > > [Lakes Hotel and Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Windermere-Hotels-Lakes-Hotel-And-Spa.h901040.Hotel-Information) > > [Last Drop Village Hotel and Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bolton-Hotels-Last-Drop-Village-Hotel-And-Spa.h9341.Hotel-Information) > > [DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham-Cotswolds](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Doubletree-By-Hilton-Cheltenham.h65899.Hotel-Information) > > [ibis budget Manchester Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Ibis-Budget-Manchester-Airport.h75715089.Hotel-Information) > > [Ufford Park Woodbridge Hotel, Golf & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Woodbridge-Hotels-Ufford-Park-Woodbridge-Hotel.h12685.Hotel-Information) > > [Dunston Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Norwich-Hotels-Dunston-Hall.h519081.Hotel-Information) > > [DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Spa Chester](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chester-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-Hotel-And-Spa-Chester.h527788.Hotel-Information) > > [Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chester-Hotels-Grosvenor-Pulford-Hotel-Spa.h790572.Hotel-Information) > > [Pine Lake Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Carnforth-Hotels-Pine-Lake-Resort.h1928661.Hotel-Information) > > [The Bull Hotel Long Melford by Greene King Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sudbury-Hotels-The-Bull-Hotel-Long-Melford-By-Greene-King-Inns.h2563002.Hotel-Information) > > [Cave Hotel & Golf Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Faversham-Hotels-Cave-Hotel-Golf-Resort.h33410673.Hotel-Information) > > [Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Manchester-Hotels-Park-Inn-By-Radisson-Manchester-City-Centre.h2601411.Hotel-Information) > > [De Vere Tortworth Court](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bristol-Hotels-De-Vere-Tortworth-Court.h570412.Hotel-Information) > > [Oulton Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Leeds-Hotels-Oulton-Hall-Hotel.h15948.Hotel-Information) > > [The Park Royal Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Warrington-Hotels-The-Park-Royal.h24462.Hotel-Information) > > [The George and Dragon Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sudbury-Hotels-The-George-And-Dragon-Inn.h4478585.Hotel-Information) > > [Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hook-Hotels-Four-Seasons-Hotel-Hampshire.h986107.Hotel-Information) > > [Hilton Garden Inn Silverstone](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Towcester-Hotels-Hilton-Garden-Inn-Silverstone.h48251404.Hotel-Information) > > [Hampton by Hilton Bristol Airport](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bristol-Hotels-Hampton-By-Hilton-Bristol-Airport.h16543862.Hotel-Information) > > [De Vere Wokefield Estate](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Reading-Hotels-De-Vere-Wokefield-Estate.h1044123.Hotel-Information) > > [Redworth Hall Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Newton-Aycliffe-Hotels-Redworth-Hall-Hotel.h517266.Hotel-Information) > > [Royal Whitby](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-The-Royal-Hotel.h57917040.Hotel-Information) > > [5* Detached Stone Cottage with a Private Indoor Pool (Not Shared)](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ashbourne-Hotels-5-Detached-Stone-Cottage-With-A-Private-Indoor-Pool.h31752210.Hotel-Information) > > [The Windermere Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Windermere-Hotels-The-Windermere-Hotel.h13431161.Hotel-Information) > > [Harbour Hotel Christchurch](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Christchurch-Hotels-The-Christchurch-Harbour-Hotel-And-Spa.h18097.Hotel-Information) > > [De Vere Cotswold Water Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cirencester-Hotels-De-Vere-Cotswold-Water-Park.h1770053.Hotel-Information) > > [Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cambridge-Hotels-Cambridge-Belfry.h1103020.Hotel-Information)
