The furniture looked and felt like old Good Will vintage. The bed was uncomfortable. What looked to be a sofa cushion was blocked by railings and couldn’t be used. The shower was a trickle of water. The pool that appears in the picture was dirty and blocked by fencing. The outdoor furniture was old, dirty and uncomfortable. The food was of poor quality. The excellence award at the front entrance is not applicable. The housekeeper was pleasant and helpful.
I really wanted to like this hotel. I love old architecture and can forgive a lot when it comes to quirks of old hotels. And this one was in close to an event I was at in so it was convenient. I tired to call to see if I could get a slightly early check in and the phone number on every email I received and from google was incorrect. So I went there, the door was locked, no one would answer it. There was a sign to call a different hotel. I called them, they gave me another number to call that went to a voice mail that was full. I had to go to an event so decided to just try again later. Came back at night, tried calling several times later and finally got in touch with someone at the other hotel who had to radio someone to let us into our room. Saturday and Sunday nights we were not able to park at the hotel, all their lots were full, despite the fact that we paid $25 for parking each night. Also, although they cleaned our room every day and replaced the toiletries, they never replaced our toilet paper so we had to go and buy our own. With a bit more attention by the staff, this could be a really nice place to stay. It has charm, architectural appeal, and is in a great location. Super disappointing they don't seem to care enough to make that happen.

The old house was beautifully restored. That being said, its kind of noisy. The old wood floors creak whenever anyone walks around. The house is located on a corner, in walking distance to the waterfront and local stores and restaurants. However, because its on a corner, you can hear all the traffic. Starting at about 6:30 in the morning you can hear every motorcycle and bus that goes by. The woman that checked us in and made us breakfast was very nice. We were just there in February, so the pool area does not look like the pictures, maybe because its still winter. I'm guessing that the renovations have not been completed yet.

Disliked: Amenities
The staff was nice, but the property lacked upkeep. The pool was out of service, and doesn’t appear will be usable any time soon. Property is for sale, so owners aren’t putting any money into upkeep. Excellent location for exploring downtown St. Petersburg. Don’t drive a large vehicle as parking spots are very small.
Lady who checked us in and served breakfast was very nice and accommodating. Property was generally rundown, not at all as pictured on Expedia. Room was minimalist with no mirror except small one in bath, no hair dryer, no clock, etc. Ext doors had minimal locks and back exit didn't appear to be locked. We were housed in the building next door which looked more like a dorm than a B&B. Breakfast was made to order as long as you wanted eggs, sausage and toast. Fresh fruit was an apple. No ice available. Outside area was not maintained 1 table with 3 mismatched chairs. Pool and hot tub were not functional. No explanation of what amenities were actually available even though they were listed on website. There were men sitting in the walkway all day long who smoked nonstop but did not appear to be guests. Mattresses were not comfortable, not enough pillows. Pictures on website need to b e changed. For an additional $40 we could have stayed in a nice hotel. We traveled 900 miles and were very disappointed. Would not recommend or stay again.

Location is great, but, the facility needs a lot more attention to detail as a lot of little things were ignored. There was nobody at reception when we arrived, we called the number, waited on hold for 15 min, finally, they hang up on us when someone came from the inside to open. That person did not speak English at all, luckily we were able to use Spanish, even though he was Albanian (!). Mattress was horrible... but, all was clean and smelled nice. A so-so experience according the price we paid.
I enjoyed staying at this little B&B style accommodation. It was very clean and rustic. Conveniently located near to Downtown St. Petersburg. Greta was very nice and showed me what true hospitality means.
Very disappointed
No ice , no early check in
Dilapidated
Pool I. Disrepair inoperative full of leaves
As bad an experience as ever had left after 2 hours checked in at Avalon ST Pete just not worth it
Terrible experience

We waited 10 minutes outside for someone to come let us in. We were not greeted with any information. We were shown to our room which was extremely outdated. The room was very clean, except for crumbs in the microwave. Breakfast was from 9-10. We were able to attend on our last morning. We had to ask to get a cooked breakfast. It seemed one lady was the only employee. She was very nice, when we saw her. She seemed more like a background employee, rather than customer service. However, I must say this was not expensive. We happened there due to lack of availability in location. It had a great location. We were walking distance from the Birchwood.
The hotel is lovely and very unique! Unfortunately my room faced an alley and it got noisy starting at about 4 am...no fault of the property though.
The refrigerator I had in my room was broken.
No one works the front desk, rooms are pretty dirty and run down, pool was green and covered in leaves, took us an hour to find someone who worked there, didn’t check us in just handed us a key, front door is locked but anyone from the street can access the house and pool from the side door. Felt like we were being punked or in a American horror story episode. Super creepy, run down, overgrown lawn, and absolutely no service what so ever, can’t even find an employee, oh and the phone number is disconnected. We legitimately thought these people just killed the owners and were living there
Everything was horrible. The guy running the hotel didn’t speak English, didn’t check us in or check ID. Just walked us to a room, there was a fire alarm beeping from low battery in the room, wholes in the wall, dust covered everything. It was in a horrible location. I don’t even know how this place is illegally open. I walked out due to it being unclean, unsafe and just feeling like my family was in danger being there.

Poor service, no wifi, not worth the money!!
The staff included only one individual who was never around because she was also cleaning the rooms. The visit began with waiting for someone to check us in, at which point I was given a key without needing to show proof of identity. The worker said we needed to “push hard” on our room door. This was not the case. After 10 minutes of trying, we finally got in. The door had 4 internal locks and did not require any pushing if the key was twisted all the way to the right. The room had been cleaned on the surface but not underneath anything. We found an old sock under the bed. We were told we’d get wifi but it did not extend out to room C, which was above a garage that kept opening and closing at 10:00pm. The wifi also did not work in the lobby when we tried. The AC regularly turned off and the room got warm. The fan squeaked and shaked when in use. The fan had to be used at night to block out loud street noise. We got in bed at 10:00pm and could not fall asleep until 1:00am. The breakfast in the morning was first come, first serve. Only enough for one family despite the fact that at least 3 families were there. The breakfast was not replenished and check out was by dropping the room key in a cup. The location was great but not even close to worth the $135 I paid for the room. I was glad to leave and would not stay here again!!
Interesting little B&B. Great location for downtown restaurants. We visited to attend a baseball game. We were able to walk the 1.5 miles to Tropicana Field easily. I would stay there again.
Staff was very nice and hardworking, and the bed was very clean. The property is a little ramshackle due to age, but that's part of its charm. The only downside was noisy neighbors one night, but that can be random.
The first "room" we had was above the "laundry facilities" that housekeeping used. It had no water. Really, no water to the toilet and just leaking water to the sink and shower. We were moved to another room in the house. It had a clogged shower head. There were bugs all over the room but we didn't leave because we were only there two nights and were just wanting to relax. This "bed and breakfast" had a very noisy bed and no breakfast. One of the staff agreed to open the kitchen door for me to make coffee. The milk expired a few months ago and the oat milk, that expired next month, was nothing but lumps. The pool was unusable due to how bad a state it was, including a layer of dirt in it. The screened off section attached to one of the two houses had no screen on it, so no escape from mosquitoes. They had construction workers there from the owners other property being built and I had to make them leave so we could sleep because the walls are so thin. Their maintenance guy is just a guy who was staying for a bit and offered free room if he would do maintenance. The owner doesn't care about this property at all and it REALLY shows. It's a shame. It's in a great location and has tons of potential. Will never go back.
