This incredible site is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and the rich history of this place is something that every school should be teaching our youth. 👇🏽 Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738 and called Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose or Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say). Fort Mose played an extremely important role in the development of colonial North America. 👇🏽 As early as 1687, the Spanish government had begun to offer asylum to slaves who managed to escape from British colonies (the first Underground Railroad ran SOUTH to Florida from the colonies!). It was well stocked with amenities, comfortable beds ,and a great shower with the best waterpressure ! It was in a nice neighborhood to walk our furry friend. Great sidewalks for walking your pets. The location was amazing- close to everything! The place was spotless, comfortable and had a very nice open kitchen, and big bathroom. The bathroom was the talk of the weekend- the shower was huge and heavenly with the best water pressure and hottest settings I think we've ever had on vacation! I know that part sounds crazy. But all of my kids and spouse were raving about it! We had a wonderufl stay, I was able to work and the ease of wifi and comfort at the desks in each room. Very nice and wonderful visit! My only negative remark would be all the fees when booking thru VRBO. I was a tad upset about having to pay an additional fee if we checked in earlier than 4pm. I understand the reasoning for checking jn early. But the extra fee per hour was disappointing. The host was top notch and responded right away and even left us a sweet surprise for coming in on Thanksgiving Day! Would book again. ##### Heather R.
