Red River House on the New River.
Riverfront Home- 4 bed, 2 full bath, 2 half bath. This home sits directly on the New River with 300 feet of river frontage. The New River is at its widest part here at over 300 feet wide. In the summer it is 10 degrees cooler than the piedmont region. Hang out on the spacious front porch on one of the 4 rocking chairs or porch swings, walk along the river, or sit down by the river. There is plenty of wildlife to look for including deer, turkey, geese, groundhogs, eagles, bears and more! The river is ideal for fishing, wading, tubing, or kayaking.
You are about 10 minutes from shops, restaurants, and Food Lion in Sparta and about 7 minutes to Independence, VA where there is a wonderful Food City grocery store as well as various restaurants. The New River Campground is only about 1/2 mile away. You can rent tubes and kayaks there. They will drop you upriver and you end up back at the campground after your float. It's very convenient. In the fall, enjoy a fire in the stacked stone fireplace in the living room.
This is a two story post-and-beam house with about 2,200 square feet of space to spread out. The main living space is open concept with the kitchen, dining and living areas all in one. Both the house and kitchen are fully furnished, well appointed, and linens are provided.
Perfect for families, individuals, or small groups wanting to get away from it all. We are only 1.2 miles, 4 minutes, from Winter Wood Farm so it's a great place to stay if you are needing wedding accommodations. Ten miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 30 miles north of I 77. Come for a quiet, peaceful retreat or get active in the river.

The red river house was just as described. The best feature was the front porch on the New River, where we saw lots of wildlife, including bald eagles. Great for cool mornings and rainy afternoons!
The communications with and responsiveness of the owners were great, as there were a few small snafus with the prior renters that affected our stay initially.
Our family of four stayed two nights with parents/grandparents from CA. The master on the main floor was perfect for the grandparents, and there was plenty of space for the rest of us to have our own spaces on the second floor.
The cabin is exactly like the photos, but with even more charm in person. Beautiful view and amazing deck. Well stocked, comfortable beds, great communication with host.
Don’t pass this listing up, this cabin has everything! There are 4 spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. We each had our own space to retreat to! There were 4 bathrooms too, 2 are full and 2 are half. That came in handy with a larger group. The open living room/eat in kitchen area is large enough to fit 8 comfortably and is well appointed. There is a huge fireplace that we can’t wait to use the next time we come! The front porch overlooks the New River and had lots of seating for all of our guests. Great location too! Located on a private road not too close to other cabins and only 10 min from Sparta and Independence. We enjoyed a night out at a cute wine bar in Sparta! We will be back! Thanks for helping me with my reservation as well, it’s much appreciated!!
Great spot on the New River! Hosts are communicative and accommodating and the cabin is cozy, comfortable and in a perfect location for enjoying the area.
We had a great stay. Home just as described. Communication with the owner was quick and helpful It was so nice to get away from the summer heat and a perfect place to stay while we celebrated a family wedding over the weekend
We never wanted to leave the beautiful porch and the rocking chairs that gave us a riverfront view. Our stay was so peaceful and the house was a perfect fit for our needs. Would definitely come back!
Cabin was clean, spacious and inviting. Beautiful interior. No complaints about anything in the house. Host was very responsive. Great location right on the river. Extremely relaxing. Sitting on the porch listening to the water was a huge perk. Lots of wildlife. Saw deer, groundhogs, chipmunks, geese and cranes on the river. Would definitely come again!
The house was very clean and well appointed. We were able to cook with no issues. Beds were very comfortable! We had everything we needed . We did a little fishing and went tubing one afternoon but mostly sat on the porch and watched the river and talked. The house feels cozy and inviting. Due to the holiday weekend there was a small festival in town and we could not get into a restaurant. Also, there weren’t many hiking trails nearby and some were still closed due to Helene (just fyi). Other than being very dark in the house, it was perfect! That porch is the best part of the entire stay! This is not an area if you like to “go and do”. Very remote, yet beautiful.
