A perfect spot for family gatherings, this light-filled house is right on the shore of a tidal salt-water river with access via your own dock in the summer. We are on a quiet, dead end road, but only minutes from the best of mid-coast Maine. Great area for biking, birding, kayaking and hiking and exploring. The house is also an excellent spot for remote work, complete with high speed Wifi and desks. For those occasional hot days, we do have AC if you need it.
Hayden Point is a very clean and comfortable house situated on its own private waterfront with steps and a floating dock (in warm months) for direct access. From our dock, you can paddle down a peaceful river to the Gulf of Maine. Large windows give unobstructed views of the water from most rooms and there is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. Hayden Point is a relaxing retreat that makes access easy for anyone with limited mobility. Our large deck overlooks the lawn and water.
The kitchen contains everything you need to cook a gourmet meal, but you also can get some of the best lobster in Maine 5 minutes away, and you are only five miles from downtown Rockland. Camden Hills State Park is a short distance as well.
This spacious craftsman style home built in 2004 has 2.5 baths and sleeps 8 adults in three bedrooms (children are welcome, too!). Everything is on the ground floor except the third bedroom and bath. On the ground floor, a private master suite with water views has a king-size bed and sitting area, a large bathroom with a custom walk in shower, and two vanities (one within the bathroom and one in the hallway to the bath). A second bedroom on the ground floor has a queen-sized bed and small sitting area, and a nearby half bath. Upstairs there is a second full bath off a very large bedroom with a big sitting area, games table and 180 degree spectacular water views. The king-sized bed in this room can be separated into two extra-long twin beds and there also is a queen sleeper sofa. A portable crib is provided as well. The house has a great deal of closet space and drawers for storage. All linens are provided and are 100% cotton. A washer and dryer on the ground level provided as well.
The ground floor has the main living space with an open dining room, which seats 6-8 people, and living room overlooking the lawn and the water beyond. The kitchen is fully-equipped with solid-surface counter tops, cherry cabinetry, an electric oven, gas cook-top, dishwasher, trash-compactor, microwave, double-door refrigerator and dishwasher and a walk-in pantry. The kitchen has a breakfast nook and double French doors leading to the wraparound deck. The deck has a sun shade, table, plenty of seating and two grills.
The living room and den area is outfitted with comfortable and stylish furnishings, flat-screen television, Roku and fire stick for streaming, and high speed Wifi for internet access. In addition to heat pumps for air conditioning, there is a whole-house back-up generator, so no need to worry about power loss. Large windows overlook the deck and the expansive lawn and waterfront. Novels, local guide books and maps are also included.
South Thomaston is located just five miles from downtown Rockland, 15 miles from Camden/Rockport and five miles from the St. George Peninsula and the villages of Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. Hayden Point is less than 10 minutes from Primo, one of the best restaurants in New England. There is also a boat launch open for public use about one half mile from the Hayden Point House, and beautiful Birch Point state park with a beach about five minutes away.
We have a professional caretaker on call during your stay should any problem arise. Dogs are allowed with owner permission and additional pet fee.

Excellent property with a great view! We kayaked several times. Great restaurants are within a 15-to-30-minute drive. Day trips to other great Maine such as Acadia National Park are within a 60-to-90-minute drive.
We enjoyed Maine sooo much! The house is a dream! Well equipped, clean and the location is amazing! We did visit Rockland and Rockport several times, there are near and are lovely. Went hiking to Camden and spent the day in the vibrant town. Everything was easy and we will repeated for sure!
The property is in a quiet rural area and also close to restaurants and interesting sites. Enjoyed hiking and museums close by and returning to this serene place. Particularly enjoyed watching the river having two tides! How do the fish know when the water is leaving the river bed?!
Very well appointed house, deck and yard. The kitchen is so nicely equipped that we had more family meals there than originally planned. Tidal inlet great for kayaking, nice views. Room to spread out for a family of six. Convenient to McLoon's at Spruce Head Point, Owl's Head, Rockland, Camden. Kay was very accommodating with special consideration for our needs.
My wife and I spent a week here in late July/early August with our 3 kids (27/25/21), working remotely some and just hanging some. Very nice property - comfy bed in large MBR suite, large upstairs with more beds and desk, well-supplied kitchen, nice deck, all very clean. Slept 5 comfortably in 4 beds. Kay was an amazing host - super responsive, informative, and accommodating. Loved the area for hiking/biking/dining out. Only things we missed were a fire pit/ring in yard and some luggage racks in bedrooms. Would stay again for sure.
The house was lovely, very clean, well stocked, and a great location on a quiet street. Nice area for walking, and convenient to many attractions.
Overall I would give it a great review except for the view. The pictures showed a nice open view of the river, but because the trees and shrubs need to be trimmed you loose 80% of the view shown in pictures. That was my only disappointment.
This Hayden Point home is of the highest quality we’ve experienced when renting vacation places. Great floor plan for both privacy and group gathering. Kitchen stocked as you would your own home, comfortable and flexible sleeping arrangements, plenty of good bedding and towels for a large family. The diverse artwork alone is worth the rental! Location is great for accessing mid-coast shopping, museums, beaches. The owner is easy to communicate with and goes beyond typical expectations to make your stay special. Every member of our party (ages 4-80) considered our time at Hayden Point to be exceptional. We would definitely return and offer our highest unqualified recommendation to anyone seeking a mid-coast visit.
The property manager was super responsive and helpful. The house is fairly new, comfortable and well-furnished. The outdoor deck is lovely and our dogs enjoyed the flat and grassy backyard (under our close supervision as there is no fence). The area is scenic and convenient to Rockland and other local attractions.
It was a little tricky to operate the air conditioning but we were thrilled to have it. Be aware that while the upstairs loft is very spacious with a gorgeous water view, there are some things lacking. There is no door to close off this space for sound privacy, no window shades (and the sun rises at 5 am in the Summer) and no closet up there. There is only one smallish TV in the house. The result was we spent more quality time with the family, so all is well! All in all we had a memorable and pleasant stay!
This is an exceptionally nice house with a beautiful view. The neighborhood is very quiet and lovely and very conveniently located. The first floor has master bedroom with a king bed and a bathroom with a walk-in shower, as well as a tub and a second sink in the hall. There is a queen bedroom on this floor also with a powder room next to it. Upstairs is a lovely large room with two twin beds, a bathroom and a seating area. The kitchen and dining room are open and spacious; and the deck is lovely, overlooking the river.
Some improvements are needed: a Keurig coffee pot, a new mattress on the master bedroom bed, a more comfortable lounge chair in the living room, and either a modified front set of steps or a railing added to the entrance, or both. This house could be perfect for those with some mobility impairments if the front entrance was improved. If you have no impairments, then no problem with the entrance.
Convenient- just 10 minutes away from groceries, restaurants, and shopping, with an ice cream shop and a charming farm stand featuring alpacas only 5 minutes away. Being situated on the river rather than the bay or ocean means a muddy shore instead of a rocky coastline and tide pools. There's limited shade outdoors with no umbrella or awning, so it's either full sun or indoors for relief.
The house itself is excellent! The teenagers enjoyed their own space upstairs, and we had a spacious master suite on the ground floor. Efficient heat pumps kept us comfortable regardless of the weather. The beds were cozy, and we appreciated the open floor plan, small eat-in kitchen, composite decking, and functional laundry facilities. The backyard lawn was pleasant, and access to the water via stairs was convenient. The neighborhood was quiet, friendly, and perfect for walks. The property manager was exceptionally communicative, prompt, and friendly.
However, there were a few issues. We found out after booking that we couldn't boil lobsters or use a large pasta pot. While we could use leftover fuel, the property didn't provide charcoal or propane, which felt less generous than other rentals we've tried. Minor inconveniences included no overhead lights in the dining room and an old, small TV without streaming capabilities (wasn't a big deal for us).
Due to vegetation, the water view is limited unless you move to the side of the property or use the stairs. Overall very nice and suitable 4fam
We thought our stay was ideal. The house is spacious with comfortable furnishings, good beds and an easy to cook in kitchen. The location is so picturesque with a nice yard, water access although in snowy December we weren’t taking advantage of that.Kay is very helpful and responsive. It was a lovely spot for our family Christmas.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. First time staying in this location and was so close to everything!! Home was comfortable and perfect for the 4 of us and our dog...beautiful views as well. Would highly recommend!
Very clean property, nicely located and an extremely responsive host. AC in all rooms which was a welcome rarity in the area. Sunset views are amazing !
Kay was so easy to communicate with. The house is so comfy and relaxing. Hardly heard any noise while in the house, except birds chirping. So close to everything. 15 mins to Rockland, 30 mins to Camden. We will visit again!
Every aspect of our visit was awesome. Kay, our contact, was great; the property was clean and well maintained; and the location was perfect for biking and sight-seeing.
