Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau combines the formerly independent resorts of Alpbach and Wildschönau to create one of the most varied ski destinations in the Tirolean Alps. With 20 miles (32 kilometres) of beginner, 48 miles (78 kilometres) of intermediate and 11 miles (17 kilometres) of advanced runs, the resort offers excellent terrain for skiers of all levels. After an invigorating day on the slopes, head to one of the area’s quaint villages to relax in cosy ski huts.
The new Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau is comprised of the resorts of Markbachjoch in Niederau, Schatzberg in Auffach, Alpbach and Reith im Alpbachtal, as well as Riedl and Roggenboden in Oberau. Base yourself in scenic Alpbach, where traditional houses are set on a sun-filled plateau. Reith im Alpbachtal is a family favourite, known for its easy slopes and excellent children’s programmes.
Ride 47 modern lifts to access the resort’s varied slopes. The beginner slopes in Oberau and Niederau/Wildschönau are perfect for novices and young skiers. Intermediate skiers can take on the wide pistes at the top of Schatzberg. Don’t miss the Snow Park Alpbachtal, which features a 490-foot-long (150-metre) halfpipe and a 49-foot-long (15-metre) roller coaster track.
Head to the lifts on Roggenboden in Oberau on Wednesday and Thursday evenings to enjoy night skiing. Find floodlit slopes at the No. 15 family run and the No. 16 Nord run. Use the special hook on the lift to be pulled up the slopes on your toboggan.
Off the slopes, check out the 1st Tyrolean Wood Museum in Auffach. The museum features more than 3,000 exhibits spread across 39 rooms. See a historic wooden nativity scene and a set of wooden underwear.
The closest airport to Ski Jewel Alpbachtal Wildschönau is Innsbruck. To get here by rail, take the train to Wörgl. Then connect to many of the area's resorts by bus. Experience the thrill of illuminated night runs at this massive and modern ski resort.
