Impressive rock cliffs make this area a climber’s dream. Hike diverse sections of terrain and witness wildlife in its natural habitat.

Breathe in clean, fresh air as it sweeps over cliffs and craggy hills in Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park. Over 1,000 climbs are spaced over its three canyons, making this British Columbian attraction popular among adventurists.

From novice to expert climbers, all can expect a rewarding challenge from the variety of rock walls in this 1208-acre (489-hectare) park located just south of Penticton. Take rock-climbing classes conducted by local experts when the season is open from March to November. April through September are the busiest periods. Climbing is only permitted in the northern part of the park, with most of the remaining portions suitable for hiking, bird watching and observing animals.

Areas of the southern portion of the park, where Gillies Creek is located, are protected for their fragile plant communities along the waterway’s banks and grasslands. The picturesque park is located on First Nations territory. Be aware of the spiritual and cultural significance for the Okanagan Nation Alliance.

Numerous bird, animal and reptile populations are established in this region. View species at risk such as bighorn sheep. Stay a safe distance from these highly territorial animals. Look for other endangered species such as the fringed and small-footed myotis, night snake and Western screech owl.

You can bring your dog to the park, but keep it on a leash at all times to help protect endangered species and other wildlife that live in the park. Mountain biking is allowed on designated trails. Bring your own drinking water.

Park your car only within marked areas to allow access for emergency vehicles. Picnic areas and pit toilets are available, although camping is not permitted anywhere in the park, including in the parking lot. Accommodation are available in Penticton.

Enjoy this outdoor wonderland of natural attractions with numerous rocky features. Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park closes at dusk.
