The water has great importance in Silkeborg and many activities are therefore water-related. You can walk to water from almost anywhere in the town, but you can also sail to many of the attractions.
There are many lakes in the vicinity of Silkeborg and Gudenåen runs through the town, so the town is surrounded by water. If you want to sail while you are in Silkeborg, an obvious place to start is with a canoe trip on Gudenåen. Here you can experience very beautiful nature and rich animal and plant life. You can go on a day trip or camp for several days if you prefer. Use this opportunity to see more attractions on the way like, for example, Silkeborg Castle.
If you are only in Silkeborg for the weekend you should find time to enjoy the many shops and restaurants. The town has plenty of speciality shops and you can find restaurants to cater to all tastes. You can easily get to Silkeborg via the motorway, if you are coming from the east or west and it is approximately a 1-hour drive from Billund Airport. There are also good train connections to the town.
