Shottle and Postern Holidays from £132

Great, clean hotel, loved the decor of the room. Car parking discount code didnt work for us though.

I genuinely struggle to understand how this hotel is rated 4 stars. My experience was closer to a 2-star hotel, if that. The room was freezing, with non-functioning heating. Even the portable electric radiator switched itself off after 30 minutes and never worked again. The toilet struggled to flush even two sheets of tissue, and the curtains didn't close fully, with no net curtains for privacy despite facing a busy main road. I reported these issues to reception, and someone was supposedly sent to fix them. However, nothing had changed when I returned, yet staff continued to insist there were no problems. Cleanliness was also poor, with grubby surfaces and corners. There were very few UK plug sockets, but numerous Type D sockets, making it difficult to use everyday electrical devices. There was also no fridge. For a hotel claiming to be 4-star, the lack of basic comfort, cleanliness, maintenance and customer service is unacceptable. Extremely disappointing and certainly not worthy of its advertised rating.

My first time staying in The Alan, Manchester. Judging by the impressions of my stay it won't be my last. Beautiful large room on the 1st floor, great breakfast, modern vibe, excellent location on Princess Street, friendly/helpful staff and reasonably priced.
