About this property
The Race Mountain House
High on the slopes of Race Mountain, this spacious 4-bedroom villa offers sweeping east-facing views. In the early hours, the house floods with morning light and sunrises are spectacular. The inviting, creative design invokes a true sense of retreat. Swimming Pool is available at the neighboring Race Brook Lodge... and Mountain House guests get a discount at The Stagecoach Tavern restaurant.
The space The open floor plan centers on a great room, with cathedral ceilings, large fireplace, sunken seating area, and generous windows facing the eastern views. Reclining sofas are just asking to be lounged on in front of a crackling fire. The well-appointed kitchen easily accommodates the hustle and bustle of preparing meals for large gatherings- we’ve had a wonderful time testing that out! The dining table seats 10.
Four bright, comfortably furnished bedrooms offer flexible sleeping options. 3 of the rooms can be configured with a king bed or two twins. Crisp bedding and uncluttered spaces allow for a deeply relaxing night of sleep. Three full bathrooms, all have tile floors and thoughtful lighting.
Special touches are sprinkled throughout the house, from the family-heirloom Steinway baby grand piano to the handmade copper chandelier above the dining table. Perhaps best of all, climb a ladder, Tree House-style, from the airy common area on the second floor to reach the loft. Wall-to-wall cushions invite cuddling, movie watching or the creation of an imaginary kid’s fort. Two decks, one on each level, and a screened porch provide space to entertain in the fresh air or to look out at the stars.
Guest access Guests will have private access to the house. Many of the Race Brook Lodge amenities, including the outdoor swimming pool, are available for house guests to share. Guests also have access to the beautiful surrounding land and hiking trails.
Other things to note We do have additional wood available for the fireplace at an extra cost of $20 dollars for 2 full milk crates per delivery.

We had a wonderful 2-day stay at this charming house! The location is perfect, nestled near the mountains with breathtaking views. The house itself is clean and cozy, with comfortable bedrooms stocked with extra blankets and pillows. The spacious bathrooms (both upstairs and downstairs!) had plenty of towels, a big plus.We loved relaxing by the fireplace, playing games, and even tickling the ivories on the piano - it added to the homey vibe!Kudos to Casey, who quickly fixed our fridge issue - super responsive and friendly! We'd definitely return, especially in summer. Highly recommend this property to others!"
This is a very special place, with lots of space, comfortable beds, and many many comfortable places to sit and hang out.Check in was a non-issue. The kitchen was well equipped
I spent my 60th birthday with a few friends at Mountain House and it was even better than I dreamed. The comfort and simplicity of the decor along with the mountain views. A must for those who like simple elegance.
This vacation home gets an A from our group! The location was wondeful for a long weekend of hiking in the Berkshires. We were an intergenerational group and it was great for the grandparents to be on the first floor and adolescents in the loft, and smaller kids and parents in the roomy and comfortable bedrooms. It was a dream to have plenty of bathrooms! The kitchen is really well set up for a large group (usually a source of lots of irritation!).It was great to have a dining tablr that fit everyone. The magestic fireplace really was a showstopper. We had a beautiful fire going during most of our visit. We enjoyed the sauna, and a jump in the chilly pool when we were nice & hot.It was perfect for family - luxurious and elegant without being overly precious.
This trip was for our extended family including 10 people ages 18-??. This house is located about 1/2 mile up a windy road above the race brook lodge's main facilities. Everyone loved the secluded location with beautiful views of the mountains out of main living area and 2nd floor. There were so many places for all of us to hang out together and/or get some private time. The house is so purposely decorated with such a personal touch. The kids took a hike right from the house. We drove down to the main lodge and used the pool for a great time. The management is so responsive via text at any time needed.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
While the house is large and secluded for those who want a peaceful location, the condition is worn out with threadbare rugs and a hodgepodge of old furniture, uncomfortable seating options and old appliances. Some areas of the kitchen were dirty as was the outdoor deck and furniture. The views were substantially different from the photos as trees/shrubs are overgrown and blocked it from both levels. It should be noted that the pool is not private nor located near the house but down a hilly, gravel road that is part of a lodge on the main road.
