About this property
Timber townhouse steps from Freers Beach
- A three-bedroom timber townhouse directly across a quiet dead-end road from Freers Beach. A one-minute stroll through the beach grass to the sand. The bay is shallow and calm, and the view across to Narawntapu National Park feels very old and vast. Behind the house there is a line of trees, then the golf course. Supermarket, cafes, a bar, a gym and a bottle shop are a five-minute walk. A Woolworths, bakery and post office are a few minutes' drive.
The Space
Originally a beach shack, now a redesigned two-storey townhouse, one of three, built around Tasmanian timber, with celery top pine floors and staircase.
Downstairs: The kitchen (fridge/freezer, oven, cooktop, microwave, and a bench with stools), two bedrooms and a bathroom. A small deck looks out onto the garden.
Upstairs: The living area and sunroom, and the main bedroom with its own ensuite, which closes off from the living room with a sliding door. A small veranda faces east. You see the water through the trees, and it gets the morning sun.
Beds: A queen in the main bedroom upstairs, a queen in the second bedroom, and a bunk in the third with a double below and a single above.
Comfort: Reverse-cycle air conditioning upstairs for heating and cooling, a heater downstairs, wifi, a washing machine and dryer, and a clothesline outside. Parking for two cars, one in the covered carport and one in front of it, plus unrestricted parking on the quiet road out front.
Garden: Shared between the three townhouses and looked after regularly, with a lawn and flowering plants that change with the season. It is fenced, so the pademelons keep to the road out front and the golf course behind, where there are plenty of them, mostly around dusk.
The Beach
Freers Beach is shallow and sheltered, which makes it calm, safe for kids and good for swimming. It also makes it a different beach every few hours. At low tide the water pulls back a long way, leaving beautiful sand flats, channels and complex corrugated patterns. At high tide it is back up near the grass. Clouds, light and wind are also in constant flux. Dawns and dusks are often very beautiful.
You can walk a long way in both directions from the beach out front - either on the sand or on a flat, sealed footpath. Across the water is the shore of Narawntapu: no houses, no buildings, just ancient hills resting under a huge sky. At Hawley Beach, 10 to 15 minutes' walk away, the rock formations are painted with bright orange, green and yellow lichen much like the Bay of Fires.
In the warmer months the bay is used for kayaking, paddleboarding, water skiing and fishing. Dolphins, penguins, whales and seals pop up now and then.
There’s plenty to do here, and no pressure to do any of it.
