For being 166 years old, the home was wonderful! Loved the back deck, Nuggets ice cream and being able to stroll through town. The battlefield tour was awesome. Highly recommend the hosts and residence. I’d gladly stay there again.
Charming and comfortable house dating back to the CivilWar. Great location to visit Antietam battlefield and Harper's Ferry WV

I had a great time at this beautiful historic house. The hosts are so great and helpful! This house is a historic home with so much interesting architecture. The home is in a beautiful location as well! Loved it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. It was very clean and fully provisioned. It was really great to stay in such a cool period structure, particularly one that is in such great shape and includes all manner of modern conveniences! The hosts were very welcoming and responsive to questions. Bravo!
It was such a treat to stay in this unique old house. The basement is built right into the rock hill! The house is comfortable and convenient even though it has seen so many years. The hosts did a great job decorating and taking care of it. We would love to come back on a warmer weekend and enjoy the yard.
We really enjoyed our stay at the guesthouse. It was cozy and comfortable, quiet and private, cute decor and had everything we needed.
The location is perfect for exploring Antietam, Shepherdstown and Boonesboro. This is a really special property! Thanks to the hosts!
Lovely historic home near the Antietam battlefield. We were attending the Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown WV, and this was only a seven minute drive.

Adorable old home in a lovely historical area. Minutes from Antietam Battlefield and Shepardstown. The home was well stocked with everything from coffee to oatmeal. The basement is really cool built around rock.
We very much enjoyed our stay at this historic house tucked into neighborhood off the main street in Sharpsburg and adjacent to a farm. We especially liked sitting on the front porch overlooking the street and fire company across the street while enjoying our morning coffee. The house had everything that we needed for a wonderful visit. The yard was great for our two small dogs.
Charming, very clean and organized. Lovely conversation areas, eating area, game playing area. Our hosts make their home very inviting and so livable. They think of many of the little things to make ur stay so very enjoyable.the rules r bd requirements r stated very clearly and so easy to follow 👍
Wonderful home close to many attractions in western Maryland. It’s any easy drive into Harper’s Ferry, Sherpardstown, and it’s walking distance to the battlefield of Antietam. Check out Little Brick Coffee in the morning and if you enjoy wine visit Antietam Creek Winery.
The house itself was like a trip to past with all the modern conveniences. It was very clean and despite being in town it was also very quiet.
Thanks, we’ll definitely be back!
This historic house was a silent witness to the great Battle of Antietam in 1862, and it's now available as a comfortable, much-loved, well provisioned guest house. The hosts are caring and involved, and the property equipped for comfort, peace, and quiet. Perfect for hikers/bikers on the C&O canal, visitors to the National Battlefield, or city folk wanting a small-town getaway. I'm sure to stay here every time I'm in the area!
We explored Harper’s Ferry and Antietam Battlefield over a beautiful fall weekend. Neither of us are history buffs and didn’t pay much attention to it in school so we learned quite a bit at the National Parks. The home was a perfect theme and location for our weekend. It was interesting to see how the people of the time lived but with modern amenities. We are both tall ladies, (5’11”) so we had to watch our heads. Stairs are steep and tight.
We loved staying at the Antietam Guest House. The owners are avid historians. Really neat to read their published book on Sharpsburg. The house was fully equipped with all the comforts of home. The location allowed us to accomplish epic day trips to Hershey PA, 2 hr drive (one day), DC (another day, we drove to Shady Grove Metro Station, parked and took Metro to into DC). Our final day we explored Harper's Ferry, C&O canal and Antietam Battlefield. Only wish we had one more day to relax and take advantage of the books, games, movie collection and downstairs. Highly recommend this VRBO.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the house was what I had expected. The check-in was not a problem and the communications with the property owner was easy and straightforward. My only issues were that the shower and drain board at the kitchen sink needed to be cleaned. It wasn’t a deal breaker and I would stay there again.
From the moment I booked our stay, the owners were prompt to respond to me and provide good information in advance. The home has been lovingly maintained and was just the experience I had hoped for. The proximity to Antietam National Battlefield was perfect. I selected this home as a "surprise" for my husband's birthday and it did not disappoint. We were traveling with our 15 year old dog who did not take to the stairs in the home very well (they are steep and short which guests are warned about) but the owners thoughtfully included pet/baby gates to avoid any misstep. Very positive experience.
We enjoyed staying in this lovely home so close to the Antietam battlefield. It was full of charm and historical features/decorations. I think the rock wall in the basement along with the candle fireplace were some of our favorite features, despite so many others to choose from. I was worried about such an old house in the middle of summer, but the fans and ac units kept the house a very comfortable/cool temperature even in the middle of a heat wave. An short walk to Nutters ice cream was also a nice way to beat the heat, and the outside patio was a lovely place to drink morning coffee before it got too muggy. We look forward to coming back sometime in the Fall when we can spend more time outdoors.
While I would say this house is fine for families and can sleep quite a few people with the pull out couches, I would not recommend it for those with toddlers or young hyper children given the old style staircases, lack of room to run around inside, and fragile historical items in the house. It was perfect for our quiet escape sans kids, and would be nice when our kids get a little older.
I think this is a nice little property for a very small group. The best part of the guesthouse is its central location in the surrounding historical area. Hagerstown, largest town with abundance of services is minutes away. Harpers Ferry is a short pleasant drive through gorgeous countryside. Frederick is closeby. Gettysburg is merely an hour ride, by car that is. Shepherdstown, WV is a stones throw away. The house is historic. it was comfortable. Being a big city kid, I was a little uneasy with the latch that kept the basement door closed, but Sharpsburg is a quiet little hamlet, so security was not a big deal. If you know you are renting an 166 year old home, then you are satisfied. Its quaint. The slanted floors, the steep and painted wood staircase with narrow steps all lend to the idea that you are staying in a house that stood during the Civil War. The house of a C&O canal boat captain. That you are just a second away where men who swore allegiance to the flag fought against each other to rid the union of the peculiar institution. If you keep in perspective the place, the events, and the outcome that changed the lives of millions, then you will appreciate this little house.
