The front desk staff mentioned she could not locate my reservation. I asked that she should perhaps contact Hotels.com and clarify as the room was confirmed and paid--I showed her the email on my mobile. She did not proceed to contact Hotels.com and suggested I do that myself. She mentioned there was nothing she could do and did not offer a room. After about an hour of back and forth, she finally offered a smoking room as there were no non-smoking rooms available anymore (I had booked a non-smoking room). In the morning the next day, I contacted the front desk and they mentioned they were finally able to locate my reservation. At no time did the hotel offer an apology or any other compensation for the 1 h argument I had to go through in order to obtain a room I had paid for, or to alleviate the fact that I was put in a smoking room instead of a non-smoking room. Front desk staff cannot communicate in English. Hotel is OK, but not clean. The carpet is in serious need of replacing (stains everywhere) and the room/hotel smelled strongly of smoke.
