Hotel staff are courteous, efficient, helpful, and cheerful. Breakfast was excellent, with western and Chinese options, including good coffee. The hotel and the rooms are furnished in beautiful mid-20th century style, very comfortable, and everything works (fridge, room safe, lights, air conditioning). Toilet even had a bidet. You can just walk out from exit 7, and you will find the hotel right there. It's also near Nanjing Road, making it easy to stroll to The Bund. Inside, the hotel is beautifully decorated with a vintage style, and the rooms are very spacious. The price is quite reasonable. The only downside is that there is a smell of smoke, but other than that, everything is great. The rooms are generous size with high ceilings. The furniture is solid, despite showing its age. The bathrooms (I stayed at this hotel more than once) have been renovated and are up to standard in functionality and cleanliness, so is the bed linen. Rooms are restocked with bottled water daily, the buffet breakfast is like AUD$12 per day and represents outstanding value IMO. The hotel is literally across the road from exit 8 of People's Square, line 2, the very heart of Shanghai tourist district (Nanjing Rd) the line 2 connects directly to both airports Hongqiao and Pudong, so really it's hard to ask for more. Hilton it ain't but neither is the price charged. Would I stay there again? The people at the front desk can speak English, but not many other staff can. The facilities look well worn a bit, but are a timeless design. This is one of those hotel styles you often see in family movies.
