The best time to go to Selawik is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is mildest and daylight hours are longest.During this period, temperatures are typically above freezing, often reaching 15-20°C (60-70°F), which is ideal for exploring the natural surroundings. The longer daylight hours—often 24 hours of daylight around the summer solstice—provide ample opportunity for outdoor activities. This is also when the Selawik National Wildlife Refuge is most accessible for wildlife viewing and fishing. For those interested in experiencing traditional Alaskan culture and wildlife, especially birdwatching, July and August are particularly good.
