Travel Guide
Seddon

Visit Kangaroo Island’s agricultural heartland to find rolling pastures, tracts of native forest and an exciting wildlife park with wallabies, cassowaries and koalas.

Seddon is a small region in the center of Kangaroo Island. Explore the area on a road trip that will take you through the rural beauty of the interior’s lush farmland. You’ll see hillsides stitched with vineyards and green meadows speckled with sheep and cattle. Check out the woodland reserves and smell the refreshing scent of eucalyptus trees. Visit a wildlife park to experience a close encounter with some of Australia’s amazing native creatures.

Go on a self-guided tour of Seddon’s rolling countryside. Stop at a farmgate to pick up some delicious produce or visit a winery. Aside from farmland, most of Seddon’s surroundings are reserved for conservation purposes. The Seddon Conservation Park is 57 acres (23 hectares) of protected plateau woodlands, a pleasant spot for a stroll along the banks of the Eleanor River.

To Seddon’s west, you’ll find the town of Parndana and the fantastic Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Dozens of animals inhabit this pretty 50-acre (20-hectare) plot. Learn about Australia’s native wildlife at the park’s daily presentations. Don’t miss the chance to feed kangaroos and wallabies from your hand or cuddle a koala. You’ll also see penguins, wombats, cassowaries, echidnas, reptiles and birds. The park has an on-site café and is a great daytrip destination for the family.

Spend the night in a country cottage or a cabin on the edge of the woods in Parndana. The small town is centrally located when exploring Seddon’s sights and has a cozy pub and a grocery store.

Seddon is situated in the heart of Kangaroo Island. It is a 20-minute drive southwest from Kingscote Airport and a 1-hour drive west from the ferry terminal in Penneshaw. Visit the region in summer to take exciting daytrips in the sun or in winter to experience the landscape at its lushest. Add Seddon to your Kangaroo Island road trip itinerary and enjoy farm-fresh produce, captivating scenery and wildlife encounters.
