Our neighborhood is essentially a single-family-home, hilly cul-de-sac. It is great for walking, with good lighting and sidewalks, beautiful landscaped yards and views of lake and mountains along the way. You will see all different styles of houses, from early 1920’s to Modern, from middle class family homes to waterfront mansions.
There are a lot of dining options in Northeast Seattle and University Village, and there are several parks and outdoor nature areas nearby. We are just a short walk to the Laurelhurst Park, which has a round 1.2 mile loop trail walk, tennis courts, playground, sports fields, beautiful mature trees and Community Center; Union Bay Nature Area which has several trails with views of Lake Washington and Union Bay and great bird and possibly animal viewing; and the Yesler Swamp with boardwalks to explore a marshy area where birds and beavers live.
There is plenty of free, unmetered street parking by our house so having your own car is a good option. In addition, there are several buses nearby. However, please note that the neighborhood is quite hilly and walking to and from the bus stops tends to be up and down hills.
Uber or Lyft might be good options to the UW Husky Stadium Light Rail station which can take you further - to Downtown, International District or the airport.
Bikes with sun-powered electric assists are parked throughout the neighborhood.
You can drive to Downtown Seattle in about 10-20 minutes, depending on the traffic (unless it’s rush hour). A walk to Children’s Hospital is about 10 minutes and it’s only 10 minutes by car to the UW Medical Center or you can walk there in about 40 minutes and bike in 15 (via Union Bay Nature Area).
