As the largest municipality in Pirkanmaa, Sastamala is a versatile destination extending along both banks of the River Kokemäenjoki. Whilst on holiday in Sastamala, you can plunge into the atmosphere of a bygone age at St. Mary's Church or during the Days of Old Literature Festival. Adventure holidaymakers can try their hand at downhill skiing or golfing at the Ellivuori Centre, or canoeing on the River Kokemäenjoki. Sastamala covers a large area and encompasses the areas of Vammala, Äetsä and Mouhijärvi. Its centre lies in Vammala, which is also the best place for a town holiday in Sastamala. There are beautiful waters on both sides and the scenery is stunning. Both villages also organise activities and markets, particularly during the summer. Start your visit at St. Olaf's Church in Tyrvää and the Pukstaavi Museum of the Finnish Book. Discover the light interior and the red-brick exterior of St. Olaf's church and learn about the history of books, all the way from the incunabula to the e-book. For a literature-themed holiday in Sastamala, the Days of Old Literature Festival takes place every year after midsummer. You can organise a low-cost holiday in Sastamala around its churches. Make sure that you see the 15th\-century St. Mary's Church and the Karkku Church. If you are travelling with children, visit the House of Mr Clutterbuck, dedicated to the world of the famous writer, Mauri Kunnas. Travellers of all ages will enjoy downhill skiing at the Ellivuori Centre, where there are activities all year round. You can also play miniature golf and disc golf here, and traditional golf at Lakeside Golf. At Pirunvuori (the Devil's Mountain), you will find beautiful views 300 feet above sea level and a stone-built wilderness studio known as the Stone Castle of Pirunvuori. Sastamala is very easy to get to, as motorways 11 and 12 pass right through the town, and trains run from Tampere and Pori and stop at Vammala station.
