Hi Jolene, I’m so glad you had a great stay! I wish you would have let me know about your trouble working the AC unit during your stay. I would have been happy to help assist you! Our AC unit works very well and can blast cold air all night long, but if you don’t set the temp low enough it will turn off when you reach the set temperature. Dear Jason, thank you for the review. I wanted to spend the time to respond to each of your points. Regarding us "contacting you after hours with bogus complaints", you consistently broke our house rules by throwing parties at our house which woke up half our neighborhood with loud noise past 12am. I never enjoy having to call a guest after-hours to ask them to quiet down (actually, you are only the 2nd guests we've ever had to call and ask to quiet down, and we've hosted over 1000 guests throughout our different properties). I was sound asleep when my phone started to ring with all the complaints from my neighbors about the noise you and your party were making. But you see, when you consistently wake our neighbors up and violate our house rules, you put me between a rock and a hard place. Either I call you and gently ask you to quiet down (which will make you mad and motivate you to leave this negative review online), or I let you continue to keep our neighbors awake past midnight. When I called you "after hours" to remind you this is not a party house, your excuse was that you were celebrating the "death of your mother". Jason, I must admit, this was the most creative, yet bizarre, excuse I've heard in my years working in this industry. Regarding your comment about my "inexperience", I've worked for over 10 years in this industry. I've spent over 3 years in hospitality as a manager at a 5 star resort in town, and over 7 years in real estate managing high-end rentals. Regarding your comment about our house being located in a "college town", our house is located in one of the most desired and expensive single family neighborhoods in all of Santa Barbara . The average home in our area (known as The Mesa), sells for over $2.5Million in our location. If you consider this a college town, I don't know what to say. Perhaps you consider Beverly Hills or Montecito a "college town" as well. Regarding your comment about it being "too much trouble" for me to drop more garbage bags off: I would have been more than happy to drop them off. I am always happy to make special visits to the property for my guests. But the reason I asked if you'd like to grab them yourself (from our shed located less than 3 feet from the front door) was out of respect for the extreme spikes in COVID-19 during the time of your stay. It is an industry standard procedure for hosts that care about Covid Protocol to try and maintain contactless visits and social distancing as frequently as possible- both for your safety and mine. Regarding your comment about our pillows being "oversized boulders", we supply very expensive memory foam pillows which have received raving reviews from our other guests. They are standard queen sized pillows, so I'm not sure why you imply they are "oversized". Regarding your comment about insufficient beach towels and kitchen supplies, we have a fully stocked kitchen and a beach towel for every guest. Your statements on this subject are simply not true. Regarding our doors being "broken", after investigating the property with my contractor this morning, we found ZERO damage to the door that would pose any safety concern (safety is amongst our biggest priorities as hosts). So if you felt the doors were broken, this was a user-error on your behalf. Jason - I'm sorry I ruined your party. But I explained upfront this isn't a party house, but rather a stunning property to relax and enjoy. I encourage anyone reading this review to see our 50+ reviews on Airbnb, all of which are 5 stars.
