The best time to visit Alta Mesa is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is most pleasant for outdoor activities.

During springtime, the average daily temperatures range from 18°C to 25°C, with minimal rainfall. This period is ideal for exploring the Alta Mesa Botanical Gardens, located just off Mesa Drive, where the wildflowers are in full bloom. It's also great for enjoying the many hiking and cycling trails in the Alta Mesa Foothills Preserve, offering clear views of the valley. Couples looking for scenic walks and comfortable outdoor dining will find this season particularly appealing.

Autumn offers similar comfortable temperatures, typically between 20°C and 28°C, and generally sunny skies. This is an excellent time for wine tasting tours at the local vineyards along Vineyard Road, as the harvest season is often underway, providing a great experience. Many outdoor festivals and farmers' markets are also held during this time, offering a chance to sample local produce and crafts. Families will appreciate the pleasant weather for outdoor excursions and the various community events.

The summer months (July and August) can be quite warm, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, making outdoor activities less comfortable during the midday heat. Winters (November to March) are mild but can bring more rain, which might limit some outdoor plans.
