Turtle Island Resort promises stunning views and decent food, but my recent stay was overshadowed by persistent operational failures and disappointing customer service. Despite the picturesque setting, including breathtaking sunsets and well-prepared dishes like the fish sandwich and coconut shrimp, the experience was marred by numerous issues. The most egregious were the frequent disruptions to water supply, with faucets and showers routinely shutting off for extended periods, often mid-use. Additionally, the restaurant's chronic food shortages led to a complete lack of options for a full 24-hour period and painfully slow service, with orders taking over an hour to arrive. Moreover, the resort suffered from frequent power outages, resulting in disruptions to essential amenities such as lighting, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi. The inconsistent water temperature and occasional saltwater intrusion in the showers only added to the frustration. Minor inconveniences, such as room mix-ups, unreliable taxis, uncomfortable lounge chairs, and inadequate Wi-Fi, further detracted from the experience. To make matters worse, despite repeated attempts to engage with management regarding a partial refund to address these issues, they’ve ignored my inquiries for over a month. Their lack of responsiveness and failure to acknowledge these problems demonstrate a disregard for customer satisfaction and a lack of accountability. Proceed with caution…

This property has so much potential. Beautiful setting, lovely villas and staff that tries very hard to please guests despite many property and property management issues. We stayed in villa 4 and upon our arrival the pool was not filled but they noted they would fill, however did not share due to the pool treatment used we could not use until the next day. We had issues with setting the safe and the management noted someone would come to reset however no one showed we had to remind them to send someone day 2. Day 1 we had the power go out several times while cooking (was not out for long periods but needed to restart the cooking several times) Morning of day 2 the guest bedroom flooded due to some toilet issue which the staff promptly cleaned up and then went to get a new part (assuming this required a trip to San Pedro) before the toilet was operational again. Day 3 we were without water for several hours in the morning. Overall the water was rather salty - not a complaint as we understood we were staying on an island but in talking to other guests who had stayed there in the past they noted this was unusual. Again this property has so much potential but it does not appear the management knows how to maintain a property like this. For example tiles missing from the pool, seemed a very easy upkeep and repair issue, cushions on the outdoor seating did not match one appeared to be a replacement cushion similar in color but a smaller size, dishwasher not working..

We love turtle island. Unfortunately, the owners are not maintaining essential things like water & water filtration. The staff is lovely and do their very best to accommodate the guest.

Terribly mismanaged property. First of all, the very first night we got there electricity kept going out and continued to go out through our stay. We couldn’t enjoy the restaurant or the bar in the complete darkness aside from one lamp and a few dim electric candles. Secondly, they had no rice and beans or tequila, which is amazing for a Caribbean resort. and We then proceeded to get our room and we were placed right next to a trash dump with an old, disgusting looking boat blocking our view. Our master bedroom had no privacy as the sliding door doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling and the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable and loud. Worst of all, the pool was murky and had dirt and debris in it. They just stuck a hose in there and then poured so many chemicals. All we could smell was chlorine, our eyes were burning. Furthermore, the tap-water and all the faucets in the shower was just saltwater from the lagoon. When we complained about it and asked to be moved, they said they cant move us even though there’s only three other people staying at the resort at the time with 8 empty units. After much arguing they offered to move us to a Lagoon unit, which is much smaller, but at least gave us some privacy and a view of the bay. However, when we came back from a day trip, they told us that the pools at our unit weren’t cleaned and we shouldn’t be using them which they told us of right before we got in. Another Shock! The AC in one of the bedrooms wasn’t working, and the

The property has a potential to be a great resort. Quiet, beautiful areas, the rooms are very nice. The only problem is the restaurant not being prepared to serve well. We couldn’t get a breakfast one day and lunch and dinner was very limited. We had to buy our water to drink.

I had an absolutely amazing time there. At night when I was ready to be away from the noise of the city, I could retreat to turtle island and be at peace. The staff was amazing. The boat captain made many trips so although there’s scheduled times for transportation, I ended up getting a ride from the island at very convenient times. It’s only a 5-6 min ride each way from San Pedro to turtle island (I timed it). You can get the golf cart through a partnered company and they will even pick you up. It was worth it for sure and the kid loved the private pool.

This resort is so unique as its on a seperate island. If you like that island feel and boat to and from san pedro. You will love it here. The staff was great and communicative. Even when some hot water problem occurred. Glad it was hot ! The view is great ! The food was EXCELLENT ! The drinks were great !! The room was comfortable and clean. You are not disturbed and can relax.

The resort is on a private island, it's beautiful, the staff was friendly, the food was good. The chef I forgot her name, made me an authentic Belize breakfast (fry jack) which was delicious!! I stayed in the beach house with the private pool, it was absolutely wonderful! A boat is needed on and off the island, they only have 1 (boat) at this time and a set schedule that is flexible, I didn't experience any issues with that. I was even able to make it to my 5am excursion in Belize City, thanks to the wonder team.

This place is isolated so if getting away is what you want this is the place. Little to do otherwise on this man made real estate. Rooms were comfortable with nice view. Staff was very accommodating.

We are medical professionals, travel extensively, and are receiving no compensation for this review. Bullet points: BEAUTIFUL property! Incredible staff! Great food. The shuttle is VERY, VERY safe. 5 star bed/bedding. Powerful/quiet AC. Kitchen is okay but could be a little better stocked. Plunge pools are worth it. Concierge services are excellent. SPA was excellent. CLEAN/PRISTINE. No power outages during our one week stay Feb 2024. I wrote a LONG review but Hotels.com allows only 1500 characters. I'll send my review to the property and you can ask them for "Brian's review". Bottom Line: You have an option of booking resorts in town (loud), beach resorts (beaches are public and these hotels have less privacy) or a locked compound where you have to deal with the expense of a golf cart (not to mention horrible traffic, parking, worry about DUI, collisions, etc). Or you can choose Turtle Island which is private, safe, incredibly beautiful, quiet and the complimentary shuttle gives you easy transportation into central San Pedro where everything is within a 15 minute walk. A place where the staff treat you like family. I would stay here again without hesitation. I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. There is no place in the San Pedro area that I'd recommend higher. The shuttle/ferry is pristine and the rides back and forth to San Pedro are not an inconvenience but beautiful, especially at sunset. Pictures do not do this property justice.

We booked a room through Expedia. 2 days before the trip we were informed that there was a discrepancy between Expedia and the resort about what room we were to be in. The room we booked had a kitchen, and they said without proof from the Expedia we would not get the kitchen we had paid for. We found the document and we ended up with a Kitchen. We had friends traveling with US, they were also to have a kitchen. We ended up sharing a kitchen, which was fine however we did not receive the entire value of what we had booked. Other couples we me there had the same booking issues through Travelocity and did not get what they paid for. Our friends were put in a different room for the first night and then moved on day 2. When we came back to the room to move their room has a toilet leaking and ants climbing over their luggage from an infestation in their building. As for dining, the menu did not have accurate pricing and was not up to date. and would often take 30-45 minutes to sort through the bill each meal. The grounds were unkempt unraked sand and weeds and mud all over. Peeling and faded paint, and a leaking window in our unit. The people were very kind, but had no power with an absentee management staff and had no power to correct things. We were offered a small discount but this did not make up for true disruption. The resort was without power for the first evening as we arrived, and were told it was for a generator upgrade, we heard that was not accurate.

DO NOT BOOK. Ok so I will start with the friendly staff. I feel terrible that they had to work here. The resort is not at all what it’s made out to be. The dining was limited everyday with less than half the menu. Sometimes there wasn’t even a chef so we would have to wait for them to find one. My bedroom door wouldn’t lock so I felt unsafe the entirety of my stay and the staff did nothing about it. We got a kitchen suite and there were no kitchen utensils for us to use the kitchen. Not one pot or pan or even a microwave. Tried to get more towels but there were none. The shuttle boat to San Pedro was never on time. Leaving me and my partner stranded very often which took time from the trip. There is so much to stay. I do not recommend anyone coming here.

Do not recommend!
Do NOT book here and if you have a reservation already, cancel it! We left after 1 night because the resort was not at all what was described on the website. The manager had claimed that they could not issue a refund because they never received the funds through hotels.com. When I contacted hotels.com, they said that the hotel had to approve the refund - radio silence from Turtle Island since then and no full refund. Spent over $1500 and they only approved a refund for the commuter flights that they had charged us for but I had to pay for at the airport. There are major concerns (including safety concerns).The only way to get to Turtle Island is through a boat ride and they only have 1 boat and 1 captain who works 7 days per week. The boat is giving guests rides at night time and it only has 1 working light. The captain said that he had informed management of this, but it went “in one ear and out the other.” That is absolutely unacceptable and a major risk to staff and guests. Additionally, there is limited staff, limited food, no chef on site, stained sheets, hot water ran out, and they charged us for a local flight that was not used to purchase tickets. The staff is great but they are overworked by the new management. Seems like this place was well run before new management took over 2 months ago, and it’s clear that the new management have no experience in hospitality. We were not informed of change until we arrived and looked at recent reviews. Save yourself the headache

Let me say the concept of Turtle Island is correct! The property has the potential to be amazing. This was our first trip to Belize and we were really looking forwards to a relaxing and fun trip. The first signal that things were amiss was the lack of communication from the resort to book travel from Belize city to San Pedro. They didn’t confirm until we were calling from the airport in Belize city. We arrived and were shown our little house. Attention to detail was very lacking, nails in walls no painting, paint flecks on the floor, not enough towels, not enough kitchen utensils. In 9 days our place was never cleaned, no sheets cleaned, no new towels. At one point we asked for toilet paper it took over 12 hours and we had to go to the front desk to ask. The staff were friendly and doing their best. But management should be ashamed. We than had power outrages and no wifi for 4 days upon arrival. The explanation being the part for the generator was stuck at customs. Why had this not been addressed back in September when the management team was dropping them and they knew they had guests coming for Christmas? Once the attention to detail and management gets there act together this place could be a great.

Staff was unprepared for our arrival and didn’t know that we were coming after months of communication. No chef on property food was terrible and even though we were told they could meet our dietary restrictions in fact, that was not the case. This was a special vacation celebrating a birthday. The original plan was to have the private chef cook us a meal, but this was not possible as the person cooking was not a chef and I would give the food one star at best. We were told that the water taxi to and from the island ran every hour, but then transportation times changed without notice. While there were full kitchens there were no utensils or pots and pans for us to cook, and it took four days for them to get them to us. The hot water in our shower did not work. We were told it was fixed several times but even on day 10 we had no hot water in our main showers. The website states that there is free transportation to the beach but we were told it was $75 a person. Prices were often inconsistent as we were told to take a boat over to another island. By the resort it would be $600. They then told us if we took a taxi we needed to pay them $100 to get a lower price because they were locals we found out it was $37.50 to get the water taxi back and for to Caye Caulker. When we arrived, even though we told them when we would be there multiple times there was no one waiting at the airport for us, and someone had to call the resort to come and pick us up. This resort is beautiful, serene, and extremely peaceful. I loved having the Island dog, Huckleberry around. He’s such a sweet guy! The staff was awesome and extremely accommodating. The only suggestions I would make is more shuttle services to San Pedro, more “snack” type items on the island, and some of the property in need of repair. It did state that they had a gym but was closed for renovations while we were there. This was important to us but we made it work. With this being said, I loved our time on this quaint little island, it was safe, it was gorgeous, and it made for much relaxation!

This resort has the makings of being something very special. Being on an island they should offer snacks etc. There is a full kitchen but no way to cook anything. As for the grounds they’re in the process of updating and renovating. They need to offer activities. The biggest highlight is Huckleberry. He is a dog who has adopted the resort as his own. He is the sweetest dog ever. It was truly difficult to leave him. The staff was very professional and very accommodating. With some improvements in the future this could be a truly special place. Stop limiting the menu and meal times as much. Offer room service. Put in a swimming beach. Get some jet skis. Put speakers near each personal plunge pool. Once items such as these are put in place this resort would rank with some of the worlds best. Please do t get me wrong this place is nice. It just has room for improvement.

We had an amazing stay at turtle island! We’re already planning a trip back. The food at the restaurant was some of the best we’ve had while in San Pedro and the shuttle to and from the island was super convenient. We wanted to thank the restaurant staff/ bartenders Ernesto and Amin, the chefs and Martha especially for making our stay memorable, fun, interesting and worth it! Mario the boat captain was very entertaining and knowledgeable about things to do as well. The rooms were beautiful, well air conditioned and a short walk from the docks. Would def recommend!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my birthday trip and enjoyed the stay, once all of the kinks were sorted. Our first room had no lock, no safe, no shades for privacy and some plumbing issues. The property manager fixed it all by upgrading our room to a two bedroom villa that was just right. We would definitely stay again once all renovations are complete. Brittany is the best and captain Joe was amazing for all transportation needs.

5 stars all around!! The food was fantastic - fresh seafood, flavors and presentation. Drinks were delicious, there’s nothing better than relaxing in the sun with that refreshing cocktail! The staff - one of a kind, personable and made sure we were taken care of at all times. The rooms were beautiful and you can’t beat the views. Easy to get to from the airport which is a plus! There sure is something special about Turtle island and we can’t wait to get back.

WOW! My husband and I stayed at Turtle Island and we can't wait to come back - I mean, how can you beat a pool right off your room?! The beds were comfortable, the rooms had amazing views, and the team on-site was super friendly and was happy to help answer any questions we had. The food and drinks were delicious! Super quick and easy to get to from the airport. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Beautiful property and pool. I really enjoyed my person plunge pool and the dining options. I purchased all inclusive and it was great. The village of San Pedro was just a short and free boat ride away.
