The best area to stay in San José De Quero is within the town centre itself, particularly around the Plaza de Armas.

This central area is the heart of San José De Quero, offering convenience and a direct connection to local life. The Plaza de Armas is a focal point, surrounded by the municipal building, the main church, and a variety of small shops and eateries. The streets immediately branching off the plaza are generally well-maintained and provide easy access to most of what the town has to offer on foot.

For couples seeking a quiet and authentic experience, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. It allows for relaxed strolls, enjoying the local architecture, and sampling traditional Peruvian dishes at one of the modest restaurants. The evenings here are generally calm, great for unwinding after a day of exploring the surrounding natural beauty.

Solo travellers will also find the town centre to be the most practical choice. It offers the easiest access to local transport for day trips and provides opportunities to interact with locals.

The best time to visit San José De Quero is generally during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience clearer skies and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty and outdoor activities the region offers. Temperatures are mild and pleasant, typically ranging from the mid-teens to low twenties Celsius during the day. This period is great for those who want to hike, visit archaeological sites, or simply enjoy the scenery without the disruption of heavy rains.

The shoulder months of April and November can also be good options. While there's a slightly higher chance of rain compared to the peak dry season, you might find fewer crowds and potentially more competitive pricing on accommodation and tours. These months still offer plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures for most activities.

Couples looking for a romantic and comfortable escape will appreciate the dry season's consistent weather for leisurely strolls and scenic drives.
