We enjoyed staying at Casa Dulce Limon. Especially: the striking architecture, handsome furnishings, the landscaping, flora & fauna (particularly birds & howler monkeys), and the well appointed kitchen. The pool felt delicious! The library was a treat; I read 3 books during our stay. Property manager Gerardo was always quick to help, friendly, professional. He arranged for rental bikes & also fresh snapper. A gem! Desi (whom we did not meet, unfortunately) did a great job housekeeping. Another gem!
A few notes: The frequent housekeeping is a good idea, due to the amount of leaves falling outside, humidity, etc. We appreciated it, along with clean towels & napkins.
The climb up the road/hill to the house is somewhat steep in places (27 degrees. Yes, we measured.) Could be an issue for those with mobility problems.
We found that having a vehicle to get up & down was important (especially at night, pitch black, when raining). It took our athletic group about 20 minutes from the house to reach the ocean, another 5 to reach the swim-able ocean (between the banderas/flags), and another 5 to reach the Natural Center/restaurants. Easy going down, more work walking up! The vehicle rental offered with the house ($125/day) is pricey, even compared to the *quite* expensive rentals at the Liberia airport (with the mandatory Costa Rican insurances -- plural). That being said, the 4 X 4 Gerardo arranged for us to rent was a solid ride. We also took his shuttle back & forth from the airport. He's a good driver & the shuttle bus was very comfortable.
The level of insects was intense. We appreciated the owner's warning about the ants & food.
The four of us ended up mostly sharing the 1 bathroom in the house, since the 2nd bathroom was in the casita/pool house.
The mattresses were a bit too firm for us, but that's a matter of personal preference. The bedrooms themselves were nice, with attractive & functional wardrobes.
We appreciated that there was toilet paper & paper towel on arrival. A little rum or coffee or fruit (hint, hint) wouldn't go amiss. ;)
Everyday, we enjoyed the beautiful views, the lovely common area, the dining table, etc. You can tell the house has been thoughtfully designed and furnished. I was sad to leave...which is always a sign that you've rented a special place. We really enjoyed Samara -- the beach, the food, and the wonderful people. We hope to see Gerardo & his simpatico doggie Maya again in the future! Pura vida.
