Piece of history
The hotel is the actual family Von trapp villa. We did not know this until we walked inside. The villa is about a 10-15 minute cab ride to downtown or to an attraction like the castle. Walking would take awhile. We had a car but left it at the villa because parking is difficult downtown Salzburg. The outside of the home is very impressive. It is surrounded by a huge white wall. The home is huge and the lawn is very well manicured. Inside the house is a ton of old Von trapp treasures to include their original benches. We stayed in the daughter Maria's room. It was a typical 'room' with a high ceiling. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small but not uncomfortable. You have to take into account this a joke from 1920. Although the place was modernized it is still old so rooms aren't huge. The owner was the receptionist and very helpful. Every am they called us a cab. The place was so amazing and a must for any sound of music fan.

Actual Von trapp home
We didn't realize this was the actual home of the Von trapps until we pulled in. The home itself is amazing and very well decorated. There are Von trapp family artifacts everywhere and it is very cool. The rooms are well done and we stayed in Maria the daughters room. The bathroom is a bit dated but that is the appeal of the place. The bed was very comfortable. The owners were the ones working the desk and were very delightful.

Staying at the Villa Trapp is definitely something for any Sound of Music lover and it's a great opportunity to learn about the actual Von Trapp history. We had a little bit of a negative first impression when we tried to call the property ahead of time to inquire about late check in. I left a message when it wasn't their office hours and then called again during office hours and no one picked up. We ended up cutting our plans in town short so we could make sure to check in in the 3p-7p window. I will say it's really inconvenient to stay here unless you have a car or are prepared to pay for a cab regularly. Christopher was great at helping us call a cab and schedule one ahead of time for us and our early train. We stayed in the Sound of Music room and it was beautiful, but I admit I was afraid of bathing in the claw foot tub because every time I got in, I feared it would collapse under my weight. It's an old house so the piping is old too so everything took awhile to drain...there's definitely no rushing here. Overall we had a good time and were thrilled to learn some more about the real Von Trapp family.

Excellent staff, friendly visitors
Because they were booked up, I stayed in the smallest cheapest room here, and found it charming! The sound of rain in the pines outside the huge windows, the comfy bed and pillows, and the inviting couches in the salon, all made the rain somehow romantic...an easy walk to trains and bus, but a getaway feeling. There was an opera singer staying there, and her impromptu Sound of Music on the staircase, echoed thru the halls like a welcome spirit...

Great experience
To start, we were upgraded to Maria's Suite upon arrival. The suite was beautiful, and was adorned with photos and items from the Von Trapp Family. Informational placards around the house helped give light into how the family really lived, a great experience for any Sound of Music fan. The accomodations were fantastic, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious.

Atmosphere and Character
A must stay for the Sound of Music fan with a car. There is free parking and free wifi (which was slow). We were upgraded to the Sound of Music Suite. A huge room with lovely garden views. There is no air conditioning in the house, but they gave us a fan to use. Lots of character (creaky floors) and Trapp family photos on the walls.

Loved it!
I don't remember what room we booked, but we were upgraded to Maria's Suite. Let me just say - loved it! It was so huge and roomy in the sitting room and the bedroom. The grounds are peaceful and picturesque. My daughter and I also loved the breakfast the next morning. I hated to leave Salzburg, and I really hated to leave this hotel.

The wonder of the Trapp Family home
We enjoyed our stay at the Villa Trapp, the building and the surrounding land are like a scene from a movie. We were able to take the S3 local train into Salzburg HBF day, the train is half hourly, but no issue. We visited the Raschhofer's Rossbrau which was an easy 20 minute walk for a great pub meal. Salzburg itself has a lot on offer toio, with beautiful scenery and history along with the sites from the Sound of Music movie!

Charming former Von Trapp Family home in Salzburg
To stay in the former Von Trapp family home in Salzburg was a wonderful experience. The house is charming and you feel as if the family could walk in at any time. Family photos of the Von Trapps are scattered over the house and the family member whose room it once belonged to is described by a photo and brief biography outside the room. The setting is lovely as well. For Sound of Music fans this is a must. We found the rooms clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The Villa is a little difficult to find, so I would advise using a GPS or taking a taxi.

A MUST for Sound of Music fans!
For everyone else, this is a nice, clean, standard B&B. But, for fans of the Sound of Music, please do not miss this one! It is out of town and not near any restaurants, etc. But, it's got history and Trapp family memorabilia galore. My room was nice, quaint and very similar to other B&B rooms. But, again, I didn't stay here for the bed quality. I stayed here because of the lore of the von Trapps.

We enjoyed ourselves so much and would stay there again. Being sound of music fans this was quite the experience of a life time. The house has history and your living in it. We also met some other travelers that now will be life time friends. The breakfast brunch was awesome too. The room was clean, they had free parking and great customer service..

Quaint Bed and Breakfast
Villa Trapp is just outside of the city, in the suburbs. The neighborhood has grown up around the house. But once inside the gate it is a pretty home, with lots of history. Rooms are nice. Ours had its own bathroom. Breakfast was good, like a bed and breakfast but the breakfast is not included in the price. If arriving after 7pm, let the office know and they leave a key and your room info in an envelope on the front door.

A great experience!
Whilst the Villa Trap is a little outside Salzburg (15 minute bus journey), we had such a lovely time staying at the original Von Trapp family home! Michael greeted us when we arrived and explained in detail about the home and the things to do in Salzburg. We stayed in Martina's room which was small and a little dark but was perfect for the little time we spent in it. Breakfast is additional but worth it to do it once - all in all we'd recommend the a Villa Trap but may not be ideal for everyone given its a bus journey into the town.

Met all Expectations
We were so excited to stay where the VonTrapp family grew up. We loved the beautiful home, the nostalgic pieces/photos and the friendliness of the staff. The room was clean, comfortable and relaxing. We regret we weren't able to take part in the beautiful breakfast offered as both mornings we had early plans. We hope to stay here again!!

Great Stay!
What a nice place to stay in Austria! Not only is it well decorated and comfortable, but there is so much history attached to it! The breakfast was 11 Euros, but delicious and well worth it. We loved sitting out on the little tables out back to eat. I was glad we had a car as you are a little out of the way, but that is to be expected as this is a residential home. Definitely recommend this place for a stay in Salzburg!

Lovely bed and breakfast
We stayed at the Villa Trapp for two nights and were very pleasantly surprised. The reviews we had read were not glowing and we were not sure what to expect. It was a beautiful home made into a B and B. We were thrilled with the size of our room and how pristine the bathroom was. If you rent a car, staying here is ideal because it is not close to any restaurants or other attractions. Highly recommend the Villa Trapp.

Perfect Villa!!
Perfect place to stay. A bit out of the way, but the train and the bus is just a short walk around the corner. The villa is beautiful, and the staff was friendly. We stayed in the Junior Suite which had stunning views out the windows. The halls we a bit noisy with people going in and out of the shared bathroom for the other rooms, our room had a bathroom. The shared bathroom has a connected wall to to the Junior Suite, this was the only drawback to our entire stay. Salzburg is stunning!!

Great stay for fans of the Sound of Music
We arrived in the evening and were warmly welcomed by our host. She was very nice, but didn't seem to know much about the Trapps, which seemed a little strange-she asked us if a son or daughter was the eldest in the family. The room was fine although it seemed very cheaply and haphazardly decorated. A house with this kind of elegant history shouldn't look like it was someone's garage apartment. Even the frames with the family's photos looked like they were chintzy plastic. The place could easily be furnished with a classic, traditional feel that wouldn't cost a lot of money.

Good experience. Property is close to train and bus into the centre of Salzburg. More could be made of the history of the house, including ww2. Comfortable stay. In view of the distance from shops, it would be a big improvement to include self-serve tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was expensive so we made other arrangements.

A good nights sleep in Rupert's room
Very quiet, clean and 5 min walk to bus or train that took us into Salzberg or to the mountains. Our bathroom was across the hall from our bedroom and was not a problem. We had breakfast in the old town for around 8 euro total for 2. We did not see how the breakfast was at the Villa because of the cost, 24 euro total. The cost of the villa was reasonable at under $300 for 3 nights.

Historic Bed & almost Breakfast
When I proposed to my wife on the Sound of Music Bus Tour in Salzburg 11 years ago, we stayed at the Hotel Bristol (5 stars) which was full and very expensive at this time (Festspiel time during the summer). So, since we have the Sound of Music connection and wanted to return to Salzburg to commemorate our 10th anniversary, we had no alternative to this bed and almost breakfast. Besides, we own a time share in Vermont at the Trapp Family Lodge, a 5 star resort. But the name and history are the only common ground. This is not 5 stars and does not pretend to be. But they charge for their breakfast which means that they are not even a bed and breakfast. The staff is accommodating and means well. But the place needs some additional renovations and the cleaning service could be improved. The room has no air conditioning nor fan which during a hot summer could be a problem. It is also quiet and charming but not centrally located. When they learned that we are connected to the Trapp Family Lodge, they gave us a complimentary video about the villa which was a nice touch!

Must do for the die hard Sound of Music Man
This is a lovely bed and breakfast hotel. It is NOT the house used in the movie, it is the home of the real Von Trapp family. The distance to, well, everything, make it not a good choice for more than one night, but it is a lovely place to stay for a night. The owners/hosts are very lovely and all the guests we encountered were also there living out their SoM dreams. The family memorabilia scattered about, as well as the plaques in front of each room telling their original purpose for the family create a lovely experience.

Villa Trapp Hotel
The hotel was absolutely beautiful and it was such an amazing experience staying in the original Von Trapp Family home. It isn't centrally located or walking distance to downtown but it is very very close to a train station on the S Bahn line which will take you much closer to downtown. Overall our two night stay was fantastic. We did have one issue where the menu posted in the lobby listed pizza as a dinner option and it turned out they did not have any on site. Otherwise the staff was extremely helpful and the room was quaint. Thank you so much!

Check the accomodation offered carefully.
A disappointing experience. We arrived at 15.25. The front door was locked. We rang the bell. A pretty, smiling, young woman in blue jeans and trainers eventually opened the door. Had it been raining, we would have been soaked! There is no reception. We were then met by Elizabeth (I think) who took us into the office to fill in the usual form. We were ushered upstairs, being told that our bathroom and toilet was across the landing to be shared with another couple! The room was maximum 2 metres wide by 4 metres long! So little space either side of the bed that bedside tables were impossible. Following consideration, we went back to the office saying that the accommodation was totally unacceptable, and that we wished to be moved to a room with en suite facilities. It was stated that the hotel was full, and that a move was not possible. The manager came in green dungarees and several days' growth of beard to confirm that no other accommodation was available. Elizabeth did contact the Rosenvilla Hotel a short distance away which was quite excellent, run by young ladies all dressed in national costume. No offer of refund was made by Villa Trapp, but we think we should get one. A tiny room for a three-day stay with shared bathroom across the landing simply should not have been offered. We booked on 26 October 2013 for accommodation on 25 April 2014; plenty of notice; why we were picked out to have the worst accommodation in the hotel heaven only knows. Perhaps Brits beware??!!

B&B
Best to think of this hotel as a b&b rather than a hotel. It is lovely to be able to stay in the actual von trapped house but the rooms are a little basic. It's a 10 minute bus ride away from the centre of town but the journey is very straightforward and the location is quiet and somewhat rural which makes a nice change for a "city break". Recommended but be aware of what you are booking.

Excellent hotel
We had a great 3 night stay at Villa Trapp. The hotel and room were extremely comfortable. Unfortunately cannot comment on breakfast, as we did not have any - we just got up and went straight into town. Definitely recommend getting the salzburg card, which allows you on all buses in Salzburg, and it was just a 10 minute ride from town to the villa and a 5 minute walk, was great! And the buses are so efficient! Room was lovely, very clean, and it was a nice touch naming the rooms after the Von Trapp children. Staff were excellent and very lovely and helpful. The only minus was that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, which would have been nice. We had an early check in so emailed ahead, and it was all sorted out. You get a key to the front door as well as the room so you can come and go as you please. Beautiful settings and garden. All in all a wonderful stay - would definitely go back again and recommend to others.
