I’m not here to compare real estate, but the house, although a bit dated and in need of a few minor fixes, was overall fantastic. The kitchen was well-equipped, the rooms were clean, and the hot tub was great. It was conveniently located between a couple of beach access points, making it an excellent value for the price. No complaints at all. I highly recommend checking this place out.Additionally, I spoke with the caretaker about the older reviews regarding the mattress covers and the non-functioning A/C. Those issues had all been resolved—the A/C was ice cold, and the beds were fine. We saved a lot of money by cooking dinners and breakfasts. There were a few minor issues that we left in a list with the housekeeping tip envelope. We did really like the layout of the house. It has the kitchen/great room in the center and there are 2 bedrooms on either side. Each pair of bedrooms shares a bathroom. We had issues with doors not wanting to stay closed. You really had to be careful while in the bathroom and either prop the door closed, or just hold the handle while occupying the toilet. Also, the handle had fallen off the one shower prior to our visit and was just hanging there. Luckily, there was a tiny post coming out that we were still able to use that shower.There is a laundry room separate from the living area that we were able to access. Both the washer and dryer did work well. Unfortunately, the dryer lint catch tray had a hole and pieces of lint were blown out of the dryer vent into the open jeep that was parked below. We did LOVE the large bookshelf with a great assortment of books to look at! There was a great variety and we all enjoyed leafing through them!The outdoor seating left much to be desired. We managed to get 4 chairs to sit on the deck. The others were broken or very rusty. There was only one usable adirondack chair. It would have been nice to have more comfortable chairs in the hot tub area.LINENS AND TOWELS ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS HOUSE. 'Bed Sheets' are listed under the amenities. We’ve always stayed in the Nags Head area but this trip was last minute so not much was available. We decided to try staying further south and ended up picking this house. The location is pretty good. From the 3rd story deck you have a fairly decent view of the sound and the ocean. The house is a well worn, true to the area beach house. Do not expect modern, because this home is anything but that which was fine with us. My only true complaint about the home were the mattresses. My wife and I are only mid 30s but still woke up sore every morning and had trouble getting a good night’s sleep. The previous complaints about the air conditioning have been remedied and the house was pleasant during our stay. All-in-all in our experience, we don’t believe that this house deserves the low ratings that it gets. While I don’t plan to stay further south than Nags Head, if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but I’d do so with an air mattress. ##### Mike W. We chose to bring our own linen and was very shocked to see that none of the beds had been stripped. There was blood on sheets in 2 bedrooms and what appeared to be urine stains on 3rd bedroom. Had to strip the beds (put dirty linen in laundry room) and remake them. I really can't put blame on the owner for they had hired the cleaning people to insure things were okay. The kitchen, bathrooms and living room were clean. Living room suit could use a uodate. I will note that there was extensive work done on the steps and outlook tower, found these to be new and very sturdy. The hot tub was marvelous! All in all we had a good time and would stay here again. ##### Katherine M. Light switch leading to main porch covered in bird feces. Grill was left full of ashes, grate crusty and broken. The under-house area was littered with trash, bag of dog poo left under the porch, broken chairs, toys. Scaffolding thrown against fence. Shower was dirty with poor water pressure. Landscaping overgrown and grass uncut. Trash full and maggoty. ##### Jamie B. However, I read through the each review and the owners responses about renovations being cumbersome. Being that I am a sucker for second chances, I took a leap of faith and rented the property. I am happy to say, this property was well cleaned, beautiful, and in a great location for a more than reasonable price. Bernie was quick to communicate with me, we had fresh towels, linens, and one of the best stocked kitchens for a vacation rental that I had ever seen. Yes, the property is your typical older beach home, with typical beach house furnishings, but we did not have any issues. We came to sight see, and enjoy board games, chess, and cards during the evenings. It was a vacation for family togetherness, solitude for the rigorous of everyday life, and we found that here. Thank you for a great vacation location, with no issues! I hope this encourages others to rent and enjoy the house, hot tub, and beautiful views of the sunrise over the ocean! ##### Donald C. The house has a really good setup for families both rooms have Jack an Jill bathroom setup. Honestly these are the only good pros I can think of. Cons Where to start, as we walked up the stairs you can immediately see that this cottage is not cared for, the stairs are starting to rot, the trim around the windows are rotting to the point there are chunks missing. In one bedroom it is so bad that you can see water damage inside. In the kitchen you can tell there is extensive water damage where the sink is to the point that it's sagging at least an inch. The couch cushions and mattress might as well not be there they are so uncomfortable. The tub only drained if I held the valve open.
