This is a pleasant hotel in a very quiet setting. However, the photos on the web site give no indication that the accommodation is in a separate, modern block down a rather steep hill from the Schloss itself. While breakfast is served in the Schloss, that seemed the only part of it used for guests. The location of the accommodation block meant that luggage had to the carried up and down the steep slope, which would be challenging for less able guests. Frankly, I had expected from the web site information to be accommodated in the Schloss itself, and was rather surprised to find this was not the case. Apart from that, it was OK, but having to drive 8 km to Saalfeld for an evening meal was a slight issue. However, the restaurant we found there, "Guldne Gans" was excellent, so not a total disaster.

Wo war das Schloss Ambiente?

Bei Ankunft war das Hauptgebäude das Schloss geschlossen. Vor der Tür lag ein Briefumschlag mit dem Schlüssel für das Zimmer in einem neuen Nebengebäude. Und ein Honweis, dass es am nächsten Morgen ein Frühstück gibt. Von der zu erwartenden Schlossambiente war nichts zu spüren. Die Zimmer im Nebengebäude waren im Stil von schlichten Seminarzimmern eingerichtet. Zum Abendessen mussten wir in das 8 km entfernte Saalfeld fahren. Berücksichtigt man den Null-Service, so kann bei 137 € nicht von einem guten Preis-Leistungsverhältnis sprechen.

More a "Hotel Schloss" than "Schloss-Hotel"

One normally has a certain idea of what a Schloss-Hotel is, and I would say that this is rather a Hotel Schloss. It is a little quirky, but more than made up for by the very friendly and welcoming staff who will do anything to help you have an enjoyable stay. Probably the best games room for any hotel in Germany (including archery).

Das wird sich möglicherweise nicht oft wiederholen, aber das ganze Schloss war nur für mich da. Da gibt’s nichts weiter zu berichten. Außer: Die kalte Platte mit Getränken war bestens und richtig lecker. Ich hab mich sowas von wohl gefühlt, danke
