Thecounty town of Roscommon, located right in thecentre of the Irish Republic, offers a wonderfullylazy pace of life, and is the perfect quiet getaway. With a modern population ofless than 10,000 people, the town once aspired to greater things as the home toone of Ireland’s earliest medieval kingdoms. With its chequered past nowconfined to the gallant ruins nearby, Roscommon offersthe perfect secluded break.

Althoughremote, it is also well connected, so that travelling here should present noproblem. With notable archaeological points of interest, lush panoramas alongthe nearby River Suck, some fantastic golf courses and, of course, countrywalks for all the ramblers out there, Roscommonhas plenty on offer.

Makethe Most of the Roscommon Countryside

Situatedcentrally in the depth of the undulating Irish countryside, Roscommonhas many challenging hikes for the keen rambler. Weavingthrough the mature sycamore, beech and ash forests of Mote Park, it offers a bothpicturesque and challenging for the experienced golfer.

RoscommonCastle

Builtin the 13th century, the arresting Norman ruins of RoscommonCastle reside on a hillside near the town centre.
