About this property
Historic 1850s Farmhouse - Mountain Views - Near Lexington
If you love old houses, history, nature, and places that have a story to tell, Walkerlands may be exactly what you're looking for.
Walkerlands is a genuine Virginia farmhouse dating to the 1850s, set at the foot of beautiful Jump Mountain in Rockbridge County. The house has been part of the Walker family story for generations, and staying here feels less like checking into a modern vacation rental and more like being welcomed into a piece of Virginia history.
The setting is extraordinary: wide-open pastures, mountains, woods, changing skies, wildlife, and the quiet of the countryside. You may see deer, birds, cows, and other wildlife from the house or while exploring the property. At night, the darkness and stars are a welcome change from city life.
This is an old house—and that's the point.
Walkerlands has character rather than perfection. It has the quirks, unevenness, creaks, old doors, antique furnishings, and idiosyncrasies that come with a house that has been standing for more than a century and a half.
It is not a newly renovated farmhouse designed to look old.
It really is old.
We've tried to preserve the feeling and character that make the house special rather than turn it into a modern, standardized vacation rental. You'll find antiques, old books, family history, and evidence of the generations who have lived here.
And because this is a historic country house, nature occasionally makes its way indoors. You may encounter an insect or two, particularly during warmer months or changing seasons. That's an unavoidable part of life in an old farmhouse surrounded by fields and woods. We take reasonable measures to manage this, but we cannot promise the completely insect-free environment of a modern hotel.
Likewise, some things in the house may be a little quirky or imperfect. That's part of the experience—and something our guests who love historic homes tend to appreciate.
Who will love Walkerlands?
Walkerlands is especially suited to people who:
- Love historic homes and architecture - Enjoy staying somewhere with a genuine sense of place - Appreciate antiques, old books, and family history - Want peace, quiet, and spectacular scenery - Enjoy wildlife and being close to nature - Would rather experience an authentic old farmhouse than a polished modern rental - Are curious about what life in rural Virginia was like generations ago
If you're looking for sleek finishes, a completely modernized house, or a hotel-like experience, Walkerlands may not be the right fit for you.
But if you find yourself drawn to the idea of waking up in a historic farmhouse, drinking coffee on the porch while looking across the fields toward the mountains, hearing the sounds of the countryside, and staying somewhere that has a story behind it—you may never want to leave.
Come for the views. Stay for the history.
